WTB TurboGrafx CD part (Gear)

I am looking for a specific gear for a Turbografx 16/ PC Engine CD-rom drive.

If you have a "parts" unit and can help me out I'd greatly appreciate it.

It's one of the gears that drives the whole optical pickup sled.

I have a complete Duo optical assy. that I cannot remember if It works correctly, but I can offer parts off of that unit. or $$$.

I too have an old TG-CD with a single busted gear. It's the gear that meshes with the sled motor gear. It's a 2-part gear...look at this earlier thread:

I was curious if maybe the material they made those gears out of was defective or something.

Hey kid_rondeau, definately same gear, same problem.

My gear looked yellow- so I assumed it was made of a different plastic- but yours looks white like the rest.

May have to find one of the suitable replacement drives and replace that one part or the whole optical assy.

I wonder if the same problem will show up though- that gear may just get brittle with age

My gear looked sort of bone-colored. I guess it's better to call it yellow. Luckily that is the only TG-CD I have the problem with (I have two other units).

I don't believe that NEC had these gears especially made for their units, so I imagine that somewhere, at some price, those gears HAVE to be available (and maybe a tiny pair of spreaders for the snap ring holding it in place!).

They don't sell gears, but they do sell a LOT of different CD player motors/lasers/assemblies. I myself have never taken the time to match the TG-CD laser up, but I'd say it's a good bet that they'd have it.

Probably not the gear though.

What we need is someone who really knows about small machined parts, how to classify gears just by looking at them, and knows a great source for them.

Or else, we need someone who has access to a mold, so we can mass produce these things ourselves out of non-brittle plastic.
