This issue's been coming up frequently these days.  :-k

Are you open to the idea of modding the TG16 console?  You'll not only get the compatibility to JP HuCards, but it'll also allow you to replace the US 3.0 card with the cheaper (& more useful) Arcade Card Pro to handle the Super CD and Arcade Card games.

Zeta's rants on US software/hardware coming 3... 2... 1...

It's not so much that I'm not open to the idea of modding, but I have the hands of a lummox and a rather poor knowledge of all those fancy chips and what have you that inhabit the console.  So it would really depend on what's involved in the process.

What he said.

The SS3 cards have been going for stupid high rates lately. What you'll pay for the SS card might almost buy you the region mod and an AC Pro (you can't use the AC Duo, you need the AC Pro).  RisingStuff sells the AC Pro for $27 when they're in stock, and their shipping rates from JP are actually very good. They can probably get the card for you if you email them, they've always been helpful to me.

So for under $100 you have a TG that's capable of playing pretty much the entire library of games (except for SuperGrafx of course).

BTW my system was modded by Red Ghost (member here). He does excellent work and is a great guy to boot.

Welcome aboard.  Another vote here for going the region mod and arcade card pro route.

It's actually rather a moot point now as my Turbo CD arrived in wonderful non-working condition.  Not sure if it was the lens or the motor, but it just would not spin.  At any rate, I think I'll just get a Turbo Duo next time.  So much less hassle.

I bought a US/SS card a few weeks ago for $100. I got the seller to lower his pricing on a few other items so the sale would "feel" more fair... but I did end up dropping some cash.

I wanted to avoid the mod because I'm a collector and really wanted to keep my TG-16 in original condition... and avoind some of the problems some people have with the region mods on the Original TG-16s. I'm an Electronics tech and fully capable of doing the mod, but value my time with my family and have had an ever increasingly tight schedule... so I opted for the US card.

Avoid GameSquadStore unless they'll knock off $100 from their price... people around here seem to loath them, and justifiably so...

As far as the broken CD unit... Duo's are known to have some issues (caps needing replacement, etc.) and they're CD units are subject to the same where and tear.

First think I would do with your unit is clean all of the contacts with D5/Deoxit and see if that works... if it was stored in a moist environment there may be some oxidization on the pins.

My TG-16/CD combo is working like a champ and it's almost 20 years old.

Good luck.

another vote for mod + AC Card pro from Risingstuff!

And pick up an import title while you are at it since you could play PCE after getting system modded.

Sorry to hear about the TG-CD, hopefully it isn't the big mother of TG mishaps - the infamous bread crumble gear.....

Try leaving it plugged in and on for a while. I had one with the cold start and that is what I had to do after the first time it works good and spins right away.

agreed

I had the same problem so I left the power on as well and pressed play just on the CD unit every once in awhile and it took about 10-15mins and she started spinning. Crazy i know but this guetto technique worked in some cases with some other guys i mentioned it to.

I still can't recommend more the cleaning of the contacts with Deoxit.

It won't hurt...
