Also if anyone know of a method to get rid of the other side of the page bleeding through in some scans without scan settings, or destructive filters that would be great.

A inky black sheet of paper placed directly behind the cover can help, though the two sheets have to be pressed tightly together to do much good (in other words: weigh 'em down with a hefty book, marble slab, gold ingot, or whatever you have handy that's flat and heavy).

Awesome Zeon! Hey can you change the name of this thread so it could be found a little easier? How about making this the Manual scan request thread like we talked?

Can you do Parasol Stars with the "new way?"  :D Also does anyone have the exact size dimensions for printing size (in inches)?

So I got to experimenting with scan settings, file formats and whatnot, and discovered a method for much higher quality scans:

Old way:

New way:

Overall, the colors and blending looks a whole lot better. Yes I am aware that the second one is a bit crooked, after scanning multiple times and not getting a straight image, I just settled on that one for now. Also if anyone know of a method to get rid of the other side of the page bleeding through in some scans without scan settings, or destructive filters that would be great. Tips on getting rid of manual imperfections neatly (like the area near the spine) would be greatly appreciated too.

I currently in the process of scanning in my collection of manuals. I am hoping to get some place to host em (the original files are about 7.7 megs each) and I won't bother to upload to photobucket anymore, it was just for previewing purposes anyways. I'll keep you all posted.

Zeon you could always zip/rar them all and place the archive on megaupload

Photoshop is great for straightening images like this. You just have to crop and rotate the image.

I was thinking about doing that. Also I found out that if I save it as a jpeg after I have a tiff of it t about 97-99% uncompressed that the file size dramatically reduces at no real noticeable loss of quality. I will probably keep a set of tiffs and make a set of jpegs.

I'm trying to avoid cropping the photo as much as possible to stay as close as possible to the original aspect ratio of the manuals, thanks for the tip though.

I have 23 of my manuals scanned in already which leaves approximately 60-70 manuals left to go.

^ I think you meant to quote ceti alpha the second time.

I have quite a few loose HUCards(more than with cases atleast), so this interests me a great deal.

Good point Zeon. Not sure, but you might be able to increase the size of the canvas and crop around that, thereby keeping the original aspect ratio of the manual. Also, the clone stamp could clean up some of the crinks and fading.

Anyway, nice work.

Whoops I meant to upload the 31 manuals I have already scanned, aside from some bleed though on some of the manuals, they came out very nice:

I am back at college with no scanner or my manuals, so unfortunately that means requests of me will be on hiatus until I am back home. Also I can't remember if these are the jpegs or tiffs, either way after converting them to jpegs at 97% quality they looked unchanged, even zoomed in, at a fraction of the filesize.
