Newer programmers survey...
« on: May 10, 2009, 03:54:41 PM »
For people not overly active with PCE development , I was wondering what exactly keeps you all from getting started?

Is it lack of programming knowledge, or time or something?

Just curious :)

All of the above. I would love to become a programmer, but have no idea where to start. I command you to install knowledge on me for starting this thread!

I just don't know where to start. I would love to see some tutorials for programming the PC Engine!

It would also help if there was a definitive program for such a thing...

For me, it's actually because I do have knowledge of programming (C++) having programmed semi-extensively in the past, and because of this I know for an absolute fact that I do not have the free time necessary to invest in such a project these days. Programming can be a very time-consuming undertaking, especially when you've got a hard-to-locate bug. Not to mention graphics work on top of that..... Only if I were unemployed would I be able to take on such a project.

I see.

Its a good thing im part time and in college and have free time/dont sleep much. >_<

After my insanity project finishes, I have a little journal of notes I took while doing things that I might slap into some nice tutorials to help new starters.

Yeah, I actually wouldn't getting into it, but like nat says, I know how much time & effort it takes to put out something really half-decent.

You add graduate school work, part-time work, wife, and other random tidbits here and there, and there's just no time left...  As a matter of fact, I've had to give up even playing video games whenever school is in session.  :(  Just one more year...

So we all drop out of school, divorce/dont get married, and quit our jobs and make the best PCE games ever!

:)

yeah, school sucks.  It takes me longer to beat RPGs during the semester ....

I cheated some and incorporated PCE Development stuff into school as projects... :)
