“ELECTRONIC GAMING MONTHLY” FOUNDER
EXECUTES CONTRACT TO ACQUIRE PRINT AND ONLINE
PUBLISHING RIGHTS TO EGM MAGAZINE

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, May 29, 2009 — Steve Harris, founder of “Electronic Gaming Monthly” magazine, announced today that he has entered into an agreement with Ziff Davis Media to re-acquire certain assets, including trademarks and publishing rights, with plans to re-launch EGM in the second half of 2009.

“The re-launch of Electronic Gaming Monthly represents a welcome opportunity to continue delivering quality content to gaming enthusiasts,” said Harris. “I feel honored to once again be associated with this respected magazine. The talented writers and designers who built upon EGM’s original vision have left behind a publication that is uniquely positioned to be successful.”

“Electronic Gaming Monthly is and always has been one of the most respected publications among the gaming enthusiast community,” said Jason Young, CEO, Ziff Davis Media Inc. “We are pleased that EGM is now in the hands of its original creator, Steve Harris, and wish him and the publication the best of success in the future.”

“We have exciting plans for the evolution of what will once again be a leading independent voice for the gaming community,” Harris continued. “The twenty year success of the EGM brand has always been built upon a commitment to its readers who I believe will enthusiastically embrace the changes we are planning to introduce.”

Additional details and future announcements will be made during the upcoming E3 expo and posted on the magazine’s official website at www.EGMNOW.com or via the official EGM Twitter account at www.twitter.com/EGMNOW .

I hope they do call it "Electronic Gaming Monthly" instead of EGM.  That kind of irked me when the cover itself simply read "EGM".  EGM is fine as a nickname and abbreviation, but not the cover title!

THIS RULES  I always wished Steve Harris would have stepped in to save EGM. Now it's a reality, I can't believe it!

I agree. It ALWAYS bugs me when entities officially change their name to some dumb nickname or acronym coined by the general public. Prime example is Washington Mutual Bank, who changed their name to "WaMu" in recent years, the stupidest f*cking name on the face of the planet. They actually went around and replaced all the "Washington Mutual" signs on the their locations with signs that said "WaMu". f*cking retarded. Lucky for me they went under last month and got bought out by Chase, so I don't have to hear the nausea inducing "WaMu" commercials anymore or see the dumb signs any longer.

What about how Kentucky Fried Chicken changed its name to KFC, then started marketing it as standing for "Kitchen Fresh Chicken"?

"ihop" makes me think of some douchey and extremely pointless apple product. :P International House of Pancakes sounds a lot better.

I hope Steve Harris can make this good again as i know that "EGM" really was pretty bad its last couple years not that i will ever pick a copy up of it but still there is a need for a good video game mag i guess.

EGM wasn't too bad it's last few years. It still had great game coverage and reviews but it had little respect for it's readers. Anytime a reader would write a "letter to the editor," and was printed, it was usually responded to by berating and making fun of the writer. There was no love at all.

Bring back Ed, Martin, and Sushi-X and all will be well in EGM-land.  It seemed to go down hill when those guys left in the mid 90's.  By then though I was already an avid Gamefan reader.  This is good news though regardless.  I never really liked EGM after the mid 90's but I was still kind of sad to see the mag go.  Hopefully the return will be for the better.
