has anyone modded a pc engine/super cd rom2/duo with optical output,

already done rgb, via xrgb 2 plus, superb visuals in all my 20 years of playing pc engine, now, i want to see if the ultimate audio, optical output for cystral clears sound

has anyone tried of sucessful done this? is it possible, considering it used cdrom, the quality must be superb? with rgb for best video, surely, with optical output this console would be the best sounding 16/8bit console?

When i was researching the various ICs in the turbo cd one of the chips looks like it might offer what you're looking for.  Its the CD DAC chip and apparently there is a way to tap a digital signal off of it.

would the dac for the cpu generated sound and dac for cdrom audio be on a different ic? thus, combining it for an intergrated digital audio with both red book audio and computer generated, it this the most hardcore ultimate aka the holy grail mod?  especially considering, is this the possibly best sounding console in it's era (very debatable, snes better dac, md had cd rom as well)

You could probably do this with the CDROM audio, but I doubt there is anything like a SPDIF carrying the chip sounds. Also, if they existed, the different streams would have to be muxed and...not worth it. The PC Engine has a really screachy noisy sound chip even in emulators. If anything the analog amps smooth the sound out.
