OK, OK, I'll review it...God help me.

God has nothing to do with it. It's you and the game now.

All alone. Nobody but you and Rasty II. Sounds like the opening to a B-horror flick, or an awkward romance comedy.  :P

I just got a PCE GT and it came with Rastan Saga. I knew the sound from the speaker wasn't working when I got. I plugged in my headphones to test it and turned on Rastan Saga and I got sound but it sounded like shit!
I put in Twin Bee after that and realized it was just Rastan. Detana sounded awesome.
Is it possible to get past the farting flame walls without getting hit?

Everything is possible in the Second Saga of Rastan. Do not discard this game. Hold it. Caress it. Kiss it. Play it. Love it.

Rastan Saga II is an unpredictable, but worthwhile lover.

I kind of like this game, the arcade version has good graphics and soundtrack which composed by Zuntata OGR. PCE's version has good color palette better than Genesis ver. The skin color of Rastan in Genesis likes already get poisoned.

www.pcedaisakusen.net
the home of your individual PC Engine collection!!
PCE Games coundown: 690/737 (47 to go or 93.6% clear)
PCE Shmups countdown: 111/111 (all clear!!)
Sega does what Nintendon't, but only NEC does better than both together!^^

Having beaten both, I will say this; the Sega version is faster. Much faster. There is a 1-second delay when switching weapons in the PCE version. And mind you, this is a observation, where the game pauses (like Energy's scrolling stages of meh) until it's figured out. I'm not hating on teh PCE although both versions of this game are tough to love. If it wasn't one of the first titles I evAR owned I prolly wouldn't care.

The Mega Drive version is a lot more playable and has better sound. Looks horrid though.

Take a listen of "PC Engine City" pod-cast number 06 at 22:38

I love this :-)

"Meaty graphics and thumping tunes" ............. "What did he say again" ........ "Thumping tunes you say" ... "well above average tunes you say" ....

LOL

TRUTH:

The problem with the music in PCE Rastan Saga II, I think, is the EXECUTION. The tunes themselves are fine, but they  simply don't use the best instruments/sounds/mix levels/etc.

Ultimately, it sounds unnecessarily harsh, cheap, pathetic, tinny, amateurish. Think *IREM* and their missteps on PCE when it comes to music.

The main tune in Rastan is a muddled, all-treble, neo-medieval romp that quickly becomes repetitive. (It has some bizarre charm, catchiness, though. I used to hate this tune, but now it has grown on me.)

But, listening to Rastan's music independent of the game, and with a pair of headphones that can deliver some bass... well, Rastan Saga II  is not that bad in the music department. There is more complexity to the compositions than you might realize. You can certainly do a lot worse in the PCE library.
