RGB questions (PC-FX related too!)
« on: February 17, 2011, 02:45:38 AM »
So, I'm retarded.  I use RF and Composite still.

There's a SVIDEO jack on the PC-FX.  Can that go RGB or no?

next, would RGB modding an IFU for Super Grafx be the ideal route?  I have a duo-r, and the US TG+CD setup also.  I figure doin the US mod wouldn't be hard either.  The Duo-R scares me though.

finally, do they make like a 3 RGB input switcherdoodad to go out to one single RGB?

Right now

The systems are all going into a 3 way composite switch, into the back of the 1084.   The composite doesn't really look that bad on a 1084 though.  (see the crispy looking zeroigar highscore shot or something).

If I were to RGB mod the systems, I'd like to not have to mess with plugging db9's in and out constantly.  I hate that crap.

You can see my stash of cables up top in the little cubby hole.  Thats my MSX rgb cable.  It works with a 1084S DIN.  That one died though.  The ones I have now (1084S-D1 and 1080) do DB9.  Dang.

With the PC-FX  S-Video is the best you can get.  It does not produce RGB internally at all.
Sad, but true.

PCE RGB mod off the expansion port is really easy.  Can't really damage anything.  A Duo has to
go to the chip, you can break the legs if you suck, but even if you do, the Composite will still work fine, the
RGB legs aren't used by the Duo.

Of course you can do a switch board.  It's up to you what type you want to use.  Just shield them well or you'll
get picture noise.  Most SCART switchers are crap.

Guess I will stick to composite for the PC-FX.  I can't imagine S-VIDEO being that much more awesome to be honest.  The composite on this 1084 looks nice.

I have a DB-9 and spare wiring, I could probably diddle up a hackjob RGB mod by just putting the things directly onto the back expansion port, right? :D

Eventually I will get an IFU and mod that so I can have SGFX+CD w/ RGB.  The ultimate solution!

is the backslut on the TG16 the same as the one on the SGFX?  I have a bunch of IDE cabling I could totally make a hacked up cable out of that I could use on either one!

and tehn cross my fingers and open up the duo-r.

I'm kind of a spastic jackass with a soldering iron though.  It's why I don't do it often lol

PC-FX  S-Video >>>>>>>> Composite.  The clarity of S-Video destroys Composite.

I guess I could try it then, I think I got an S-VIDEO cable.

How do I hook it up to the 1084 though? :)
