This is just one if the many things that the PCE pioneered that people take for granted now. The Sega-CD, Saturn and Dreamcast also have control based resets. Imagine how today's generation would react if you took away the 360/PS3 button from their pads?

QUESTION: Why ask why?

ANSWER: It is terribly convenient to have a soft reset available at your fingertips.

HuCARDS and CD's alike benefit from it (to change settings, manage memory back-up save states, etc. etc.)

I would be annoyed if I had to hit a button on the actual console every time I re-started a game (or swapped a CD).

Fin.

A lot of games will reset if you hold ABC and press Start.

I remember at least one game that you had to hold select+run for 3 seconds to initiate a reset, but I can't remember the title...maybe Ys 4 or maybe a shooter...anyone?

I always soft reset before powering down a CD game.

But seriously, they should have made it a more complicated button combination. I've never gotten very far in a 5-player session of Dungeon Explorer with friends because, inevitably, someone always ends up resetting the system when you have yourself and up to 4 other people playing who aren't accustomed to the turbo.

Bonk III CD goes to the titles screen rather than the System Card menu.
