Playing Super CDs on TG-CD
« on: March 17, 2011, 04:10:41 AM »
I'm drawing a blank here.  Which card is needed in order to run Super CDs on a USA TG-CD system?

I'm seeing super system cards on eBay, but these appear to be for the PC Engine only.

Anyone?

Super System Card 3.0 is correct - they made 'em for both regions.  The US one is quite pricey though, so you'd be better off with a region mod and a PCE card (even better is a Arcade Card Pro).

You can use a PCEngine SuperCD card if your system is modded, you have a converter, or do a "chopsado" mod on the card.  (Or alternatively use an Arcade Card *Pro* as it also has a built-in Super CD card. Of course it's also a PCEngine card. Don't get an Arcade Card *Duo*.)

I don't know how rare the US SuperCD cards are but it's probably cheaper to use any of the above options.

The main problem with using a PCEngine SuperCD card is that the menus (for save game management) are in Japanese (AFAIR).  You might want to keep your regular US CD card handy if you need to format or delete save games. :P

There doesn't appear to be any US Super system cards on ebay. they are fairly rare.

Added in edit: The suggestion made by td741 to Chopsado a Japanese card is probably the best solution.

Region mod your system.   Then you can use a japanese system card AND get all the pricey US games on their cheaper pc engine equivalents (hucards that is)

Any of the methods mentioned above are better solutions. I agree with Dan, a chopsado is probably the most cost effective way to go + a PCE (3.0 or arcade pro) card. A US Super System 3.0 card will easily cost $100 or more on eBay. Forum member Chop5 makes chopsados in case you are interested, or you can build one yourself: http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=5227.0.

SignofZeta: What a quintessentially PCEFX thread. Someone complains about nothing, multiple Bible-length posts discussing who's a bigger a$$hole follow. You're both pretty big a$$holes. Let's call it a tie.
