RGB scart cable
« on: May 10, 2011, 12:22:32 PM »
Is there a certain cable that would work reliably with a modded PCE?  I read that there were issues with resistors in some cables?   This is a mini DIN conector I'm thinking of.

unless you have a pinout we cant help you. there is no standard on RGB modding a PCE system so to make any cable you would have to know the pinout of DIN. also you need to know if the RGB amp was put in the system of not.

http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/pce/rgb.htm  I was gonna use this guide, and It would be better if the RGB amp was inside the console rather than the cable - I trust this isn't over complicated?

The RGB lines come directly from the VCE and would be more vulnerable in an external amp setup. Those RGB pins aren't buffered (regardless if they need to be amp'd or not), so you increase risk of damage to the VCE by putting those very lines in an external (of the case) environment. If those output lines are damaged, then that's it. There's no replacing the VCE other than scraping from another system. If you're adamant about running an external amp (for whatever reason), then at least buffer the lines before it goes external.

I'm a complete noob to the who RGB thing(been looking into the XRGB-3), but, question, does the Turbo absolutely have to be modded to use a SCART cable?

Yes.  What I did was modify my Interface Unit (all video and sound are passed through the back end).  On that I took a DIN out of a TurboTap and used a Genesis SCART cable.  You do need to build a small circuit.  I just put a transistor in each line and called it a day.  Works perfectly except for a bit of smeariness for a second or two right when you turn it on (immediately fixes itself).

Ok, it seems I have more to think about that I previously expected.  Can anyone provide a guide?   Seems I need to amp the PCE (core unit) from within, and then output to RGB.  Scart connector is not an issue (I believe) sice I'm in Europe.

This one:  http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/duorgb.php

(Sync doesn't necessarily need amplifying, tho.)

Probably to provide a line buffer for it (diagram doesn't show where Sync is pulled from. I'm assuming there's no driver for it before the circuit).

Yeah, I don't trust myself with a soldering iron........or electronics   So, if & when I go this route, I'll deffinitly either try to think of someone I know locally who can do it, or have to send it to someone to do it.  Even if it's easy, I just don't trust my skills in this department at all :?

Ok guys, I bought most of the components today, so thatks for this.
I'm going to use an internal amp using the guide provided.  Does this now mean that I can use any mini-din scart lead?  Or will I need one configured specifically?
