problem with gate of thunder music
« on: October 26, 2005, 11:10:18 PM »
Today when I went to play Gate of Thunder the music played during the title screen but stopped playing as soon as level 1 started. I've heard of stuff like this happening but I find it odd that the music still plays during the title screen(of gate of thunder) as well as in the bonk and bomberman games on the disc. Could this just be a problem with the disc or is my whole system broken?

If this is an original disc, look for nasty smudges or scratches. When the music drops out, does it sound like the CD drive is trying to correct itself (as it would if the disc had a scratch), or does it just keep spinning and the laser just keeps progressing as if everything were normal?

My TG-CD has lost Redbook audio on damaged tracks (due to scratch), but things were fine once I got to a new stage and a different redbook track was accessed.

Mine does that too man, I have to play mine upside down or on it's side to get it to play the full tracks.  It always cuts out anywhere from the beginning to halfway through a track, it's super annoying.  Especially on games with rad music like Dungeon Explorer II, that really pissed me off when it started doing it!  I kinda regret ever getting rid of my old briefcase setup, it played everything flawlessly.

I don't know about you guys, but my Turbo Duo and PCE briefcase combo work like a charm.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

My Duo works fine with actual glass mastered discs, I've played Gate of Thunder hours on end with no problems. As discussed many times on these forums, the TG-16+CD-ROM seems to be a lot more reliable than the Duo's are.

True.  Unless its a DUO-R and RX.  As D put it,  its because the R and RX had the power source away from the sound board or something.

fortunately i think it was just the game and not the system that had a problem. the disc looked pretty bad and after cleaning it, it seems to work fine again.I was scared for awhile there but I think my duo is ok.

Try taking it to a Game Crazy game store,  these are inside Hollywood Videos.  Most of these have CD resurfacing machines.  I took a beat up Gate of Thunder and they left it in like new condition.
