Used it the other day, but it's not working for me either.

Frankly, PCECP is more or less obsolete anymore, and has been for quite some time. It hasn't seen an update in years, and it doesn't offer much for PCE/Turbo stuff that isn't offered in a better manner by one of the other sites.

It still has plenty of information I haven't found anywhere else.  I've used it over the years to compile the lists of TE/GT multiplayer games, mouse compatible games, 6-button games, and games that use the MB128.  It has release dates.  It lists cart sizes.  It's advanced search features are very nice, as is the ability to sort lists by region and format.  PCECP has remained my go-to site for identifying random hucards or quickly determining how much English is needed to play an import without sifting through reviews and youtube videos.  It's notes about random hardware incompatibilities have also been a real time saver.

The only reason it's a relic is because it's a database.  These days everyone wants user content and flashy presentation.  It could use some updates, but there's not an urgent need to update a mostly-accurate database for a dead system.  The information is still useful and I hope it sticks around.

PC Dai and other sites do just about everything you listed. I actually think the advanced search feature, while a nice idea, is one of PCECP's areas in greatest need of an update. You're right, it is an old-style database, and this creates a number of inherent problems, the search being one.

I like the idea of being able to search by so many criteria. One problem, however, is the inability to utilize text searches for developer/publisher. You have to select these from a database list, and often times you'll get 8 million listing for, say, Namco and you have to look at them all separately. I can't just type in "Namco" and get a list of all the games their name is attached to, I have to sort through each of the listings, one at a time, and compile a list. This sort of thing could be fixed by migrating the database into a SQL sort of environment.

I don't care about user content or flashy presentation, but I'd probably use the site if the whole operation wasn't quite so antiquated. Good to know lots of people are still getting use out of it, though, so I'll be quiet since it's evident my opinions aren't shared.

Actually nat, I kinda share your opinions.  I rarely use it anymore now that I use the PCengine Bible.  I've always felt the search function needed work.  But, still as good site to go to.

What vestcoat said.  I'll agree that its advanced search is cumbersome, yet it's infinitely more useful than the non-existent advanced searches on other sites.

P.S. - I can't get to it, using both Firefox and IE.

I'm using Chrome and it's not loading for me. :)  I just tried Firefox as well and it still wouldn't load.  I'm not going to bother with Opera, IE or Safari since I just keep them on for web testing purposes.  If it only loads in one of those browsers, I won't bother visiting it anyway...

Hell yes, pcecp.com remains my first-destination to look up stuff, even if I am not doing a specialized/advanced search.

I'm surprised more folks here don't find it useful.

On a related topic, here's the full Japanese Hyper Catalog that I hack-converted into HTML:

I don't know why no one else followed up on this post!

I am assuming this was taken from the last Hyper Catalog to be published? Can you provide the issue/month/year of release?

Even more important, I'd love to hear about how you "hack converted" this...Iyou built an html table by converting the original data format...tell me more

It was from Hyper Catalog 6, summer 1994.  I just used a hex editor on the various database areas of the disk, extracted them to separate files, then removed illegal bytes keeping a single separator between entries so that they could be loaded up as a column in a spreadsheet program.  Once I got all columns on the same sheet, I coloured it up and exported as HTML.
