Dead Super System 3.0 Card?
« on: November 08, 2005, 09:31:27 PM »
I've got a TurboGrafx System with the CD
attachment. It boots up fine with the basic
CD system card. And Japanese games will
play fine with the Purple Barney converter
that I use.

I got a Japanese Super System card a while
back, and finally got a Super CD to play with
it Today. I booted my system up with the 3.0
card, and the 'Push Run Button!' screen came
up. I put the SCD in, and press the Run button.
Then the screen says 'Just A Moment,' like any
loading CD does. A few minutes later, it's still
on this screen, and I'm getting impatient, so I
turn off the system, and re-power the unit up.

Now, the system won't boot up with the 3.0
card at all. Maybe the card was formatting or
something when I turned it off? Any idea if the
card is ruined? Any way for me to reset it, or
test it? Tried it on my turbo-express, but I get
the same white/green/blue screen that I get
when I try to boot the 3.0 card on my TV. Any
suggestions would be very greatly appreciated!

Best Regards,

The gold contacts on your system card 3.0 might be dirty. Try cleaning them with a Q-Tip and some regular windex or isopropyl alcohol.

I get the same thing with my Arcade Card sometimes, I have to use the old NES tricks to get it to read (like pushing it all the way in, then pulling it out a tiny bit, twisting it to the side a little, etc).

If the card didn't work the system shouldn't even boot to the PC Engine Super System 3.0 screen.

Yes, I've had some HuCards that needed some adjusting.

But here's something that is often overlooked: while the HuCard contacts may be clean, the internal contacts in the console's HuCard slot might still be soiled.

Just be careful -- I use a foam applicator (Radio Shack: swabs originally for cleaning the heads of cassette decks / VHS players) because they don't leave fibers behind (as cotton swabs do if they get caught on something inside the HuCard slot).

I had some sticky crap on my Japanese Super System Card 3.0 when I first got it and it wouldn't work, but I simply wiped it off with my shirt and fingers and it works fine.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).
