Missing PC Engine logo
« on: August 09, 2012, 01:09:27 AM »
If you found a white PC Engine, but the logo was faded, or somehow missing, what would be the best way to put it back on?  Sticker would be cheap, but wouldn't really last...  Maybe a transfer and some kind of varnish/transparent coating?  Does anybody know about that sort of thing?

Draw it in with a Sharpie Fine-Tip Marker.

Hah, actually I'm thinking ahead to this LT-alike I want to make.  I'm gonna take it easy on the money this month, and then when I get my bonus next month, I'm gonna buy a whole bunch of furniture, take a week off and get the parts for the LT.

Basically, for the screen, I plan to make a PCE mould out of clay, then make a reverse out of plaster of paris, then vacuum mould the actual case, and use the now halved (baked) clay mould to impress the detail from the PC Engine top into it.

And then just to ice the cake, I'd like the logo.

Need to wait until I have all the stuff so I can work out the dimensions of everything, but I think it will work pretty well.

Before I whitened my PC Engine, I considered spraypainting it white, cutting out the logo on a material like adhesive-backed vinyl, and then finishing it off with a clear coat.

You can make a sticker hold up for along time if you cover it in a layer of acrylic clear coat. There is a type out there that can be purchased at wal-mart called "Pledge floor care finish with Future". Its clear and high strength, acrylic based, and will hold up quite well. Action figure and computer case modders use it for small paint and sticker label jobs. I keep a bottle here for my own projects and can confirm it holds up. Before you peel the sticker and apply it, just coat it in a thin layer, let it dry, and re-coat it. You can use a standard wide horsehair model paint brush to apply it evenly or whatever.

I second this.  I have a bottle of it that I got back when it was just called "Future" and the stuff is awesome.  It's pretty popular amongst wargame miniature painters and model-builders.  Awesome stuff.

I would make a mask in the shape of the logo and use an enamel or lacquer paint, which is pretty much how the factory did it. If the logo was gone I would be painting the entire case first so the damn thing would stay white. After the logo I would apply a clear lacquer.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to actually do this some day.
