Duo RGB woes
« on: August 31, 2012, 08:32:20 AM »
Hello again all.

I'm having a strange issue with my RGB mod.

I've wired up the RGB pins  and just connected them to the DIN for now just to test, I was going to add a amp later but I'm getting a white screen when I try and load a HuCard.

When I switch the machine on with no game I get a the main screen but with a fuzzy picture and some moving video noise.

When I go back to composite everything works without a hitch.

Hope someone can help.

Cheers

A white screen usually means you're trying to load a game from the wrong region...

A fuzzy, moving picture can mean that the monitor doesn't like your sync signal.  Are all of the colors present?  What kind of monitor are you using?  How are you connecting the signals?  Do you have the ground signal wired up?

I've tested the RGB wires with a multimeter and Im getting a fluctuating readout from each channel. I'm just using a bog standard TV with scart input, I added an 8 pin din to the PCE. If i just have the 5 original pins wired up to the scart connector sans RGB it works fine with composite video.

I used composite video for the sync, fed that to pin 20 on the scart connector and added 5v to pin 8 and put a 75r resistor from pin 8 to pin 16 this may help.
as for the white screen you might have a duff hucard or a tetchy one.

Thanks for the reply fraggore. I added a resister to 8-16, everything else seems the same.

It's really weird I get the pc engine home screen but no hucard will load (white screen) where as as soon as I pop in the composite lead they will run. I tried some cd's and bizarrely almost none of them will load apart from gradius 2?!? The picture is ok except i have some white dotted lines on an angle across the screen.

if your running without an amp, using capacitors on the RGB lines is a must (could solve the white screen)
the diagonal lines are bad grounding
