Price check on SuperGrafx console..
« on: October 29, 2012, 07:21:45 AM »
Is this a good deal for a loose SuperGrafx system ($226 shipped)? It doesn't appear to have the NEC power supply (not sure if that affects price). Trying to find one of these but they seem few and far between.. Also does anyone have any experience with this seller?

Re the seller, have never purchased hardware from them but have purchased games before without issue.

Not a great deal but it looks like one of the better deals on eBay at the moment. You actually just missed out on a really good deal that sold here. :(

These ones from Hit-Japan might be worth chucking an offer on, you can usually get them down by $20 or more with consoles.

I'd say you could land the first one with an offer of $145 making it a total of $220 with EMS shipping (the one you link to above is SAL shipping at your quoted price).

You might get lucky with an offer of $185 with the second boxed one making it $265 delivered via EMS. Not really that much extra to spend for a boxed console.

Thanks for your help Frank, I have dealt with hit-japan on ebay before.. A few things on that first hit japan auction: It doesn't have a power supply, will my Duo-r power supply work with Supergrafx? I am assuming its the same.. Also is the AV cord for that unit the same as the rest of the PC Engines? The av cable it comes with appears to be mono (only 1 audio output cable)

No, your Duo-R PSU will not work with the SGX unfortunately. You'd need to buy a generic one with suitable specs:

9V DC 800mA
(+)----(o----(-)
Outer Diameter: 5.5mm | Inner Diameter: 3.1mm

Didn't even notice the AV cable on that Hit-Japan listing, it's definitely not official. My bet is that it's probably from a Mega Drive or something. It would still work but without stereo sound obviously. That said, you could always use your AV cable from your Duo-R.

Ahh okay thanks for the help, I would have just assumed it was the same. I guess for the time being I will try to remain patient and see if anything cheaper comes along :)

Just about every NEC console, other than the stock ones (TG/PCE/CG/CGII/etc. and Duo-R/Duo-RX), uses a different power supply from the others.

Yep, that is a bit annoying but it's PCE's bday today so I can forgive them. :)

I use my Duo R power supply (pad129) with my Super Grafx since I bought it without one.  I made a connector adapter out of a genesis 2 female connector (fits the Duo R plug) and a larger male connector that fits the Super Grafx with the polarity swapped.

I've been using it for a few years now with the hopes of finding a cheap original SGX power supply.  Which will probably never happen.

Also, if you plan on using the Super Grafx with a Super CDrom unit, you can buy a custom power extension cable that fits the Super Grafx from retrocave for $8.  Basically powering both the SCD and SGX with one power supply.
