FS: Interface Unit + PC-Engine + CD-ROM
« on: January 27, 2013, 10:33:39 AM »
Hi everyone,

For sale I have a briefcase Interface + PC Engine + CD-ROM unit. Originally I purchased this for my own use, but I managed to get a PC Engine DUO-R so this has been sitting around doing nothing. This was purchase from a Japanese seller who lost the cables and hookups for this due to it's age, so to be on the safe side it was sold to me as untested / as-is. Since I never got cables to test this myself, I will also play it safe and sell it as untested / as-is. If I had to guess, I assume the interface unit and PC Engine probably work fine, but that the CD-ROM would need a bit of loving to get working. Anyway, here is the exact unit I am selling:

Interface Unit + PC-Engine + CD-ROM (Open) / SOLD

Interface Unit + PC-Engine + CD-ROM (Closed) / SOLD

Asking: $79.99 + Shipping (from Canada). Again just to be clear, I don't have cables for this unit so it is being sold as-is / untested.

Cheers!

Ya, I have no idea what works or doesn't but given the age, I would suspect gear maintenance would be in order.

The price concerns me. It is untested, as-is. It doesn't come with any cables. You haven't mentioned whether it includes a system card of some sort. Just too many pitfalls to throw down that kinda cash, especially considering what it costs to get that stuff fixed (despite the fact that the repairs folks on this forum do are reasonably priced). It's too bad, cause I might be in the market for a CD unit before long, but this isn't the deal for me.

I would be happy to test the CD unit since that is the part most likely to fail.

I completely understand your feelings on the matter. You are correct that this unit doesn't come with any cables or system card. Essentially the price I'm asking is simply what I paid for the machine (excluding getting it out of Japan, which I'll just eat the cost on).

So I'm not out to make a killing, I just priced what I paid for it. However, if this seems out of line feel free to point me in the right direction and I'll take a look. I'd be happy to price it accordingly if i'm out of line compared to other 'as-is' setups of this type. But anyway, that's why I'm trying to be as clear and honest about this as possible. Hopefully the new owner is clever enough to fix any issues this kit might need resolved. As with anything of this kind of nature, it's always a gamble.

Thanks for the kind offer. Had I not gotten a PC Engine DUO-R from another great member here, I probably would take you up on that. Unfortunately I think the back and forth shipping would make it cost prohibitive, especially since I'd have to have it shipped out again. Since I am aware of the risks involved when buying untested items, I'm completely open to pricing this kit according to the fair going rate. Since I'm not as experienced as others, I'm not sure exactly what that would be but I assumed it would be around what I paid for it (At least from what I can tell by viewing other similar items).

I'm not asserting anything about the absolute value of this item. I'm really note sure what the more objective worth of it is. Subjectively, however, there are just too many questions for me.

Thanks everyone. I really do appreciate the constructive feedback. If it makes any difference, I did offer a discount of $20 to the person who ended up buying this unit so that it would be more of a deal and less of a risk if there are major issues. :-)
