Turbo Duo with a Sony PVM

I have an american Turbo Duo and I just picked up a Sony PVM monitor.  What is my best a/v option with this set up?  Is it s-video mod or rgb mod?  Are there any non-modding options?  Is s-video or RGB better/more reliable when it comes to the Turbo Duo? I've read things about all the RGB mods showing jail bars? 

Does anyone else use a Duo with a PVM monitor?

If you are going to mod your system to use with a PVM, go all the way and RGB mod it. modding just to use s-vid is just wasting the PVMs capabilities. Stock system on the PVM your only option is composite.

Is a rgb to scart adapter ok to use on a Sony PVM broadcast monitor ?? I'm considering buying a SONY PVM-2950Q 29 IN monitor but on the pics I only see scart video inputs .. Will using an adapter affect the overall quality of the video image ??

I've never seen a PVM with SCART inputs.  Most of them have BNC inputs, with a separate connection for R,G,B, and sync.  That's what both of mine have.  I just buy SCART cables and have a SCART -> BNC adapter cable.

And to the OP, yes, the Turbo in RGB on a PVM is AWESOME.

Did your Duo have an amp? Suggested method is build Amp (most likely needed) have the AV port replaced with a 5 din socket, and as Jibba recommended get the Scart cable with adapter. Once you get the 5 din socket you can easily have a cable made that goes from 5din to Scart, or even better yet make a 5 din cable to BNC connector.

Oops my bad I believe it was s-video on the back of the PVM monitor .. Don't know how I mixed those 2 up ..

There is no need to introduce SCART into this equation. What's actually on a SCART cable is convenient, but the connector itself is a POS.

Also, while a good amp is nice, it isn't strictly needed. Same goes for the sync stripper, etc. Fully analog SD monitors have a much easier time syncing to a PCE than do upscalers, HDTVs, etc.

You might have to jack the gain up so much on an unamplified signal that it washes out the image, or it might be fine. Hard to say. Obviously if you are sending it out have the guy do the amp. If you are doing it yourself you might want to try it both ways.

The scart cable is more of a convenience since that's pretty much the standard connection most people use for RGB. So if you invest in scart wires for all of your systems it's the easiest cable to find other cables for to match up to different devices.

Pretty much what Punkic said, it's just a matter of convenience since the Scart cables are available. 5 Din to BNC is custom, but not like it is that difficult to make.
