I think I have a copy of World Court Tennis with two manuals tucked in the case... I'll have to double check. Bought it brand new a few years back. Not sure if the second one is french or not, haven't touched the game since I first bought and opened it.

I was right, it also came with a french manual. In fact, I bought it new back in 2002 from TZD when it was on sale for $9.99. Found the receipt tucked away in the manual.

That's pretty bullshitty that they carried Canadian stock, while at the same time refused to sell to Canadians.

Yo' Bro , 2 copies brand new sealed ,cardboard box is the same for both countries ,front sticker is different , "free poster inside" or "directives en français à l'interieur". To the back of Canadian version there's a sticker on the barcode ,this sticker is a barcode itself but not the same.

I think it was a Quebec law, but it was easier to apply it to the entire country instead of trying to keep Quebec separate.

Canada has 2 officials languages. So normally the french is supposed to be present in the entire country. But as no one else speak french they only make sure french is on in Quebec.

Later on, maybe just TTi onward, games released in Canada were no different than U.S. releases.

Up until that point, I think that these were the only games not released here-

Sidearms was sold here back then. I bought it new at Radioshack in Quebec.

Some of my friends had working designs games but can't say if they got it in Quebec or in the USA.

Canada is a bilingual country.  Any product coming into Canada must include French instructions.  I thought it was the same in the States except you have English and Spanish? 

I like how the now generations of games add French to PS3 games.  They include a completely separate manual.  Normal practise for me is to tear off the cellophane, and stuff the French instructions inside the case.  If the French instructions won't fit properly then the get tossed into the recycle bin.

There are francophone groups everywhere in Canada but we're mostly a minority.  Quebec being the only province with a francophone majority has a set of laws that more or less require for software to include french instructions, etc.  It does get enforced sporadically and occasionally you hear saber rattling from their provincial government about pulling software off the shelves if they don't meet their requirements..  

It's usually easier for companies to distribute the same version across the whole country. (Which is fine by me, being franco-ontarian, I get a spare set of instructions... )

Most packaging I've seen now a days seem to include English, Spanish and French for distribution across North America.  You do occasionally get French-only version of software (i.e. versions packaged for France but with the region locking to North America).  I occasionally buy those on clearance if they're cheaper.  Other times you'll see a bilingual dust jacket with the french instructions outside of the case just shrink wrapped together with the game.  Or dust jackets that are flippable to the alternative language...

Some Radio Shack franchises imported games and stocked platforms (Jaguar, 3DO, etc) that the chain did not. Unless a bilingual box or manual for Sidearms and the IGS releases turns up, then it's safe to say that they weren't released in Canada. Working Designs told me themselves that they did not have their games distributed in Canada.

ASIDE: I love hearing about this part of TurboHistory. I only have 1-2 boxed games with French+English, and...

I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT THESE variations in packaging existed until a few years ago, here on this forum, when someone casually mentioned it. I was like, "What?! Why haven't I learned of this sooner?"

BACK ON TOPIC; IMPORTANT QUESTION: The U.S. manual for Space Harrier lists our favorite boss as "Oui Oui Jumbo", which I think is a non-canon (unorthodox) name for the boss.

(1) Can a Space Harrier guru clarify the names of the bosses? I love learning about stupid little things like this. ESPECIALLY because whoever came up with "Oui Oui Jumbo" is my kind of corny. I love that name, stupid as it is!

(2) Can someone with a French-Canadian Space Harrier manual/foldout report (scan!) the NAME OF THIS BOSS. Did it remain "Oui Oui Jumbo" or was it translated?

(4) My lazy arse needs to post an image of the manual... (ha! let's see if I do it before someone responds...) DONE.

I don't have the French manual for Space Harrier, but the French Valis II manual uses the exact same names for the bosses, even though the descriptions of each are in French.
