Looking for reasonably priced Turbografx 16 games

I just picked up a Turbografx 16 for $11 even though I didn't really know anything about it.  I had just heard that the Bonk games were cool and I like old videogame stuff so I figured I could pick up some cheap games and have some fun with it at that price.  Well I'm having a hard time finding reasonably priced games.  

I don't really know what games I'm looking for other than the Bonk series.  My friend says Splatterhouse is awesome but it looks like it usually sells for $30+ so that's out of my price range.  Basically I just want anything that'll be fun, and the only types of games I don't really like are RPGs and sports games.  I really like platformers so those would be a plus.

So if anybody has any games they can sell me for fairly cheap I'd really appreciate it.  I'm just looking for maybe 2-3 games, I don't care about the condition or if they come with box/manual as long as they work.  I can pay with paypal or postal money order, whichever is preferred.  

Also if you know links to any sites where I can get games for decent prices that'd help too, I haven't had much luck with google/froogle.  Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.

Your best bet is, unfortunately eBay.  You can find tons of games for decent prices.  If you look in the main Turbografx thread, you can also find about a dozen threads with recommendations.  But here's a quick recap of a few must-haves:

Keep away from Neutopia I and II since you said you didn't like RPGs. They aren't RPGs, but close enough.

Also, keep away from Bonk 3. It'll cost you about $100.

Hi Josh,
most of the good US Turbochips go for over $20 on ebay but you can find good deals if you keep checking.  The fact that you're willing to take games without boxs and manuals will help you keep the costs down.
Keep your eyes out for small lots of turbochips on ebay.
as far as websites go,
www.tzd.com still has a few US hucards, all brand new.

www.estarland.com sells used games for reasonable prices.

Darkman (http://www.darkcityproductions.com/duo/index.shtml) got his site back up and a good, somewhat outdated, list of online vendors can be found there.  some of the links are broken for vendors that are still around so try to google the vendor if a link doesn't work.

it's easier to find PC Engine hucards for cheap prices, but remember that you can't play them without a converter or a modified system.  not-too-good converters usually go for $50+ on ebay and a new, high quality converter can be had for $100 at TZD but it sounds like that's out of your range.

if you go to www.pcecp.com you can search for a list of all of the hucards released in the US and check out screen shots.

there are tons of good games i'd like to recommend, but i'm only going to list some that are usually fairly cheap.

heck, pick up Keith Courage if you don't already have it.  that should be the cheapest game out there and it's a pretty solid platformer

Just to comment on jlued's post, Neutopia II is one of the more expensive HuCards, being about $50 at the very least. I'll make you a list of cheap HuCards that are usually under $20 in a bit. Hopefully if you enjoy them enough, you'll try getting into the more expensive ones which are even better .

Ok now I'm confused, what's the difference between turbochips and hucards?  What kind does my system play?  I'm really not interested in spending more than $10-15 per game max, I thought games would be cheap.  I guess I'll just put it up on ebay and make $10 if games are gonna be expensive, I'll be able to play some of them when the Revolution comes out.

I did look on ebay but didn't find much that looked for decent prices.  I'll check out those other sites linked though.  Thanks for the suggestions.

As for 'TurboChip' vs 'HuCard', there is no difference, really; in the system and game manuals they are usually refered to as turbochips; the cards themselves, however, are labeled HuCards.

As for finding used turbo games in the wild, good luck: depending on where you live, they may be virtually nonexistent. (in Omaha, at least, even Keith courage is hard to come by.)

"TurboChip" is the American name of "HuCard" and "HuCard" is the Japanese name of "TurboChip", so your system plays TurboChips . Don't worry, we usually just refer to them all as HuCards.

While I always use "HuCard" because it sounds kool, I say we make a concerted effort to bring "TurboChip" back into our conversations!

I do say TurboChip everynow and then I would like to try to use it more when referring to American versions, so I agree with Steve.
