Sony PVM - SCART?
« on: January 04, 2014, 10:16:07 AM »
Guys:

I'm planning out my path to getting a handful of systems to display RGB on my new Sony PVM 2950Q. I've done some research and it sounds like the set will only take a certain kind of sync signal, all signs of which point to me getting this cable (that has the breakouts and a built-in sync stripper):

Do you guys have any recommendation on a SCART switcher? Something like this maybe:

Is there any modification that needs to happen to make this all work?

You should be good with that cable. It's easier then most people make it sound. Genesis/sms, SNES, PSX, Saturn, Dreamcast all output RGB already so no mod needed. N64 and NEC stuff need to be RGB modded. NES/Fami has some new rgb mods out there but I haven' t messed with them yet. PCFX just use SVID. The SVID/composit look awesome on that monitor too.
Does yours have the speakers/remote??
You shouldn't need the sync stripper but it doesn't matter.

Yeah it has the foldout speakers, manual and remote. The guy I bought it from was a pro and kept his equipment in really good shape.

Might have to look into modding one of my PC Engines - I'm guessing Turbokon's chip would do the trick?

Looks like you can adjust all the image settings with the remote for that one which is really awesome. That component converter will not work. That monitor doesn't look like it does component which is different than RGB. RGB modding a pce is basically installing a RGB amp and a new DIN plug to the back with the pins for RGB signal. I'm not sure who is offering this service but a lot of people here have systems that were modded by ebay seller Doujindance. You might be able to find a kit online to build an amp too.

Oh yeah, my bad. Forgot that was a component chip.

I *do* get amazing S-Vid output on my Super CD-ROM2 and my briefcase setup from Keith; might just stick with that unless there's a super-compelling jump in video quality vs. S-Vid.

well, if you have a badass rgb monitor might as well use it and go all out rgb though. PCE in rgb is amazing, probably the best system in rgb, a shame it has to be modded.
