Games on the rise - Any titles in particular?
« on: June 11, 2014, 04:59:29 PM »
Hey Everyone,

With the advent of speculators, resellers, and just plain demand for retro gaming in general, has anyone noted the rise in price of specific PC-Engine games? I'm not sure about which titles are rising faster than others, but I assume some of the more rare titles like "Steam Hearts" and "Sylphia" would have probably risen in price compared to where they were a year ago? Has any other collector here felt the pinch yet?

Unlike TG-16 the PC Engine prices seem pretty much static, nearly all the games seem to sell for around the same as a few years back. Though there is one game I noticed has increased in price which is Tatsujin.

Madou Monogatari.  I shoulda bought it a couple years back at $120, when I passed thinking "Nah, too much, I'll find it cheaper in a lot or something."  Now it sells for $200ish.

PC Magical Chase has gone up a lot because people don't want to spent thousands (just hundreds) to play a copy.

I've seen a lot of PCE titles rise over the past couple of years.  Not crazy inflation like the Turbografx-16, but enough that I wouldn't have the library I have now if prices were so high.  Mostly shmups, but the hard-to-find tg16 alternatives are generally going way up.  It's silly.

There are a handful of PCE titles I held off on picking up a couple of years ago that now I can't justify picking up because they sell for so much more. Meh.

Maybe people who were collecting TG16 just got tired of the pricing and decided the PC-Engine is a cheaper alternative. Which is why maybe more people are snatching up titles causing prices to rise?

As said before I haven't noticed a rise in prices on PC Engine games.
Some buy it now prices have gone up but those games aren't selling.
The prices auctions are ending at seem to be the same as a few years back.

Prices have been going up on some PCE games.I do find it odd it's happen to 1943 Kai,for years it was dirt cheap and now it's not.Which i find odd since it's a common game and not rare at all.

This

That is why pc copies of magical chase and tetsujin (which never came state side) are the next two gaes on my list to get now. Hopefully at prices that dont burst making me feeling I bought them at the high end. Or even worse waiting and seeing the prices rise even higher
