external drive recommendations
« on: September 12, 2016, 12:12:08 PM »
I've been trying to burn some of these english patches and whatnot, and have found I'm making a lot of coasters. the external drive I've got here starts at 10x, I can't get any slower.

I'm thinking I should get a new external cd/dvd writer, but have no idea what direction to go. what have you all found useful for this sort of thing?

I've been using a Plextor PX-712UF for my PCE CD ripping and burning needs. It's been great.

Edit: Might be hard to find one at this point. I believe I paid around $20 for it which I was pretty happy with.

The one in my MacBook has burned dozens of PCE games. I took it out so I could have two HDs. It still works, now externally, via one of those SATA to USB cables. You could probably find that setup on eBay for $8.

i've found that coasters are caused by bad rips like 80%+ of the time. After finding a good source of rips, my shitty old laptop burner has made zero coasters
