Differences with original PC Engine case?
« on: October 01, 2014, 02:06:44 PM »
I tried searching for this, and couldnt find any information anywhere, so I thought I would ask the question here.

I recently purchased 2 white PC Engines, and noticed today that there was a slight difference between the two. I thought I would ask here and see if anyone could explain why this was done.

1st PC Engine: Controller port surround (case) is flat, like the turbografx16.
2nd PC Engine: Controller port has a large raised area just above it on the top half of the case.

When and why was this change made to the design of the original PC Engine case, and which one is older of the two?

Thanks!

I only have one white PCE, never knew there were any variations.

Wow, I've never seen that before (bottom).

My PCE has molding like the (top).

I wonder if there are variants of Core (and Core II) models as well...I've never noticed any. Then again, I was never looking for cosmetic variations.

This was the best photo I could find to show the molding around the port of my CoreGrafx:

Zoom in and you'll see it is similar to (top) PCE in your pic.

There is a not so old thread about this.

Round port matches original controller plug.

Later port matches the Duo style controller plug which became standard.

hmm if thats the case, then I wonder why they later changed it to match the newer style plug if that design was never carried over to the other models.... just odd...

I forgot about that. All I remembered was a recent thread about the red cover on the PCE controller port. Where's that thread?
