Best place to hid your Duo-R region-free switch?
« on: December 07, 2014, 10:22:05 AM »
Because I wouldn't allow myself to cut into the Duo-R (even though it's not the prettiest), I have the switch between the lid and the bottom of the Duo-R near the huey slot. Has anyone done a mod where it doesn't damage the unit too much?

I repaired this one from scratch about 2 years ago now.

I used a nice rocker switch on the back next to the A/V jack on a Duo R system.  I cant find a pic of it right now but it looked very natural there next to the a/v jack and it was basically hidden since you cant really see back there unless you look directly at the rear of the console.

On a duo I did a long while back.  I used the same switch and it matched very well where I mounted it.  The pic is dusty looking and makes the color look off but it actually matched very well.  The switches I use are about $6 each but they're really high quality and they have a small bezel on them so even if you dont cut a hole for them perfectly, they hide any imperfections under the bezel.

Here's another system I did but I didn't attempt to hide the switch anywhere.  It still looked good.

I usually mount the switch like BMW mentioned but I have also mount a switch under the Hucard cover.

Turbo fan since 1991 after owning my first system.

steve... vaLLis? Smh

That is clearly a creative shorthand for "Valis II"

Valis II --> Va + II + is --> VaIIis

What I find goat more interesting is the "SC"—clearly, Steve has been a beta tester for the extended "Special Campaign" version of Valis II with new stage designs, new stages, and a chance to unlock hidden bosses (when beating various time attack challenges).

Do you like it, especially with it being all the way in the back?

Yep.  You can't see it at all unless you pick up the system, and it's easy to use (you don't have to see it to push the button, and it's easy to find being right next to the a/v out).
