Also, Golden Axe on Sega CD is superior compared to the cartridge version if you don't have any friends over... or just don't have any friends period. It's got cooler sound effects. It also has the arcade music. Really not sure why they lopped off the two player mode. Streets of Rage on the same disc has a two-player mode but it loads the entire game into RAM whereas Golden Axe loads level by level. My guess is that maybe two different teams did the conversion to CD. Anyone have any insight or speculation on this?

The Columns title screen has nice (I believe by Yuzo Koshiro) redbook audio on the 4 in 1 disc as well. There's quite a few changes to the games on that disc.

Yep! New sounds and music in Golden Axe and removal of two-player mode (music is redbook audio). New voices in Streets of Rage (except for the voice sample in the boss song). New title screen music in Columns. New voice samples in Revenge of Shinobi. New drums and I think new voices (I forget) in Super Monaco GP if you have the 5-in-1 version which includes this game.

I would've loved redbook treatments for the games, especially Streets of Rage, & especially if you had the option for redbook or chip tunes.

With Yuzo Koshiro music wouldn't everyone?

Revenge of Shinobi would have been nice with a sound upgrade as well.

It did get a sound upgrade, albeit a small one. All games got a sound upgrade in one form or another.

I've been thinking lately that there's very little reason to own a Sega CD, especially with a Turbo Duo. Are there any ports that are significantly better on the SCD than the TG/PCECD?

I own a SegaCD for the sole purpose of playing Final Fight CD.  If you can live without Final Fight CD, then skip the CD system, IMO.

I knew this would be about Golden Axe...

The Mega CD has a few decent, exclusive titles (Shining Force CD, Snatcher (English), Vay, Dark Wizard, Robo Aleste, Sonic CD), but not a great deal.

I didn't realise the Mega CD version of Golden Axe had a sound upgrade, might have to find a cheap copy of the Arcade classic disc now.
My favourite pigeon had a fatal run-in with a cloud...

Oh no... other games that are well worth playing on Sega CD are:
Sonic CD, Panic Button, Popful Mail, Snatcher, Keio Flying Squadron, Lunar, Mickey Mania, and then you have some of the turds of the system that are still enjoyable (maybe just nostalgia... not sure) Sewer Shark, Double Switch, Night Trap... there are many more that I like but those are the ones that stand out right now.

Flink is a must own SegaCD as well...

What ever happened to someone redoing the sprites and stuff on the PCE version at some point, that project seemed to float away

My side of things(music) is done, other then just balancing the volume of all the songs with the sound effects.  Nod/Rover has been having a lot of trials n' tribulations, so coding is probably the last thing on his mind ATM.  BT got quite a bit done, though was working on Lucretia last I heard.

That looks so much better. If the play mechanics are fixed this game would be so much better than what I've been playing on the TG16
