Thoughts on the TurboVision (for the TurboExpress)?
« on: February 08, 2015, 03:54:57 PM »
I remember the TurboVision add-on for the TurboExpress was once really valued by collectors prior to the digital TV switchover.  In the present day, I bought the required plug for RF input and I have used it as a secondary monitor.  The fun of that wore off quickly.  Is there anything to do with one besides antenna fencing and dust collecting?

Pretty much wasted your money unless you value using it for video input which you already stopped doing. There might be a few analog stations still transmitting in your area that might work, but rest assured, they will cease broadcasting in a few years as well...

Naw, they were not a waste of money, they were an old purchase when everything was, well..., more affordable.  Maybe I'll raffle them to the community?  One thing I have not done with them yet:  tried to play Fallout 3 on the screen :)

I bought mine because I wanted to experience the glory of old-skool TV broadcast on the TurboExpress. It was fun.

There are a bunch of stations still broadcasting.

Most importantly, send me the audio/video cable you are using because I lost mine at some point.

I'm serious. I though I had an old camcorder cable that would work but I lost/threw out cables at some point when moving.

I bought mine a few years before the digital switch, and it wasn't all that useful then either.  It's not really all that portable (bulky and battery draining), but even if you had one with you why would you watch tv when you could be playing Alien Crush?

Watching Phil Donahue and then playing King of Casino immediately afterwards was amazing.

When I moved from RI to CA we went a week or two without a TV and I used the TurboVision to watch the premiere of Enterprise. I think that was the only episode I watched...

Nowadays that spot on my Express is a controller plug so the TurboVision doesn't even connect.  Still, I dream of one day having another Express that I'll keep stock so can't bring myself to selling the TurboVision.

I looked and had to go all the way back to 2012 for the adapter:
Adapter Connector 3.5mm 1/8" Mono Male plug to F-Type F Female jack

That should be it, enjoy!

I thought it would be 1/8" stereo + 1 male plug (L + R + "mic" repurposed as video)? I don't know the name for this (if it has one)--the male plug with three distinct sections.
