Now that I am home and actually in front of my pc and not typing on a Samsung Galaxy I am going to explain this situation to you so you have no future doubts about my intentions, or viewpoint on this matter.
You are new here cjameslv. You did not deal with the Sapphire mess of years prior. No one just tossed their Sapphire disc away once it was proven without a shadow of doubt they were fakes. They were sold for $20-30 on average or traded off for similar value. The situation had already happened, and the clock could not be rolled back.
I myself have never had a major issue with repros or boots. I don't go out of my way to buy them, but I used to collect oddball pirate stuff, even of stuff I already owned, because, why the f*ck not.
I grew up dealing with this mess with indie black and white comics like TMNT. The early B&W issues were pirated a lot. Even the fakes held value on the collectors market and maintained said value on price guides. If someone knew what it was, then the problem was kind of non-existent to the buyer and seller. I even dealt with this mess with Go-Bots growing up.
The bootleg toys were never actually labeled "Real 100 percent legit Go-Bots" so I didn't care. They were cheaper and back in the 80s being a poor kid of a single mom, I did not complain, just like I didn't complain when my mom got me some of that generic GI Joe stuff from Remco.
My issue comes when people try to pass fakes off as legit, like Tobias did with Sapphire, or charge way way way over what would even be considered reasonable for a repro, like what he does now, or people acting like they have the right to simply do what they want, like it is the Wild West of gaming.
Outside of getting the guy prosecuted or sued, Tobias is never going to stop producing his wares, and no one here has got their shit together enough to combat him on any level. It is pointless making thread after thread and post after post bitching about it. The situation is what it is, and he is always going to have buyers.
What you can do is take action to let him know his wares are devalued. If you have some of it, you can list it for sale or trade at well below his asking price, and rob him of another potential customer, just like what was done during his Sapphire days. You may, or may not, eventually influence his prices.
Odd's are you wont, but thread crapping on anyone passing off his stuff they no longer want, via sale, raffle, or trade will just create the opportunity of potential buyers still flocking to him because the person with the drastically discounted copies of said stuff will pull their threads as opposed to listing them and stressing over listening to your bullshit.
No matter how much you want to piss and moan about "fakes", there are still going to be people here simply not wanting to pay $350 bucks for a legit copy of a subpar game like Renny Blaster or Kaze Kiri, but they would not mind buying some 4 pack of pressed disc for like $130-150 because that is the only way they know they are going to be willing to get those games outside of cd-r copies.
At the end of the day, a gamer is a gamer, and a colllectard is a collectard. The collectard is going to be the knob paying $350 for a legit Renny so it can sit on a shelf. The gamer is going to get the cheapest possible copy, play it to their desire and be done with it.
Currently, like it or not, Tobias is the cheapest source outside of burn copies, and many gamers still do not like the idea of cd-rs. Cd-r media is mostly sold as short strategy now. Its junk and it stresses out older lasers. Even non-tech head gamers who mess with the classic stuff are savvy to know this.
Any efforts made to get Tobias to come down on pricing is a small victory in the scheme of things, but people like you will help ensure that his prices stay up and he has a steady flow of closet customers. Evidently I have been considering the bigger picture about this stuff then most for awhile now though, and I know Tobias lurks here, or has a snitch (of which I was kinda hoping to lure out, but I wont say how), one or the other.
So he can see or hear about this kind of activity obviously. After all, he has a vested interest here, doesn't he? So you can either do what it takes to drive his prices down and steal away future customers of his, or you can keep driving them his way. Your choice. Ranting and thread crapping will just continue to ensure people go to him, his closet customers.
Me, I don't need your drama or your bullshit thread crapping cjameslv. Especially when its hypocritical at best, considering your selling accessories to a product that promotes and profits from piracy via playing roms. There are very few people out there using flash carts to only play home brew and hacks. You're lying to yourself if you think otherwise.
The stuff I have sitting here can continue to sit here. I'm not going to toss it in the trash because honestly, where is it going to go, a landfill? Thats just what we need to keep doing, tossing old games we don't want in the trash, filling more landfills instead of passing them off to people that want them. So these will just be my burden I guess until I find someone local to give them to. I'd have given them to Herc, but he doesn't play these kinds of games. I
GAVE him the ones that I knew he would play. Nothing was asked of in return.
I offered the remainder I had here as a chance for someone to unload stuff they no longer wanted my way in case they actually did want these. I did not ask for cash, nor wanted it. I don't need any f*cking money, and as is I don't even need any f*cking trade. My current budget allows for me to buy 4-10 games every two weeks now.
I was offered a US Chase HQ, which I could just as easily flip for $70-90 and be done with it, but I flat out said that was worth more, too rich for my blood, and would rather have a cheap PCE copy. I wanted nothing of high value, no mint VGA rated bullshit or high dollar US titles. Just a filler trade to pass the time, because haggling and trading amuses me. I have done it for like ever now, and if you go back over my prior sale threads you will spot many that are trade only.
I give things away when I want, raffle them away when I want, and trade them off when I want. I don't let outside forces influence my decision, as in, pressure me to just give stuff away if I don't feel like it, or throw stuff away because some other knob thinks I should.
The only offer I had received yesterday was for Chase HQ, so the thought occurred that these might have made a decent future raffle, since I already have a PCE Neutopia and 3DO book one going on.
I posted an interest check on my thread this am, go back to review and see your thread crapping. I dont always read every post on a thread before I post. I am remarkably lazy when it comes to this. At 37 years of age, my f*cks have ceased to be given on many things that can always be done later on. I assumed the thread crapping had ended with Jibba, but evidently not.
My value on the Tobias boots is maybe in the $15 range a pop resale. I think if anyone ask over that they are being a f*ck tard. I believe that is even less then the asking price being proposed for a certain title on a certain FB group that may, or may not, be produced, let alone at the quality that Tobias does. And say what you will, Tobias does do high quality boots, like the cunt or not.
This is my final word on the matter. I am not going to give Tobias another 9 years worth of posting and ranting just because some hypocritical f*ckwit noob decides to come along, roll the dice thread crapping while pretending to know shit he knows nothing about just to see what kind of drama he can start. Go back to playing your roms and peddling your flimsy plastic wares cjameslv. In other words, blow.
And NightWolve my friend, I think I beat your recent rants by a few paragraphs.
