That looks horribly cheesy, and not in a good way like the tongue in cheek Turbob game.

The Turbo version was done like Twin Peaks.

A generic modern film version like this makes no sense for the license. The original game was already inspired by films like Them and Empire of the Ants.

Just like that new Lucifer TV show which is supposed to have little in common with the comic it is based on. When the title character is based on something which is public domain, why bother licensing a comic version if you're not going to be remotely faithful to it? Unfortunately, studios have formulas which prove that crappy films marketed as "based upon" make more money than than similarly budgeted crappy films.

It'll prove true for me in this instance, as I'll watch it for being Turbob related (superficially) but I'd skip it if it were a generic ant movie.

Agreed.

There actually was a lot of (stereotypical) stuff from the TG-CD that the film could have expanded on:

The role of the radio DJ (taking calls and addressing the town)
Hivemind
Quirky townsfolk (it would be great if the film transcended stereotypes...)
Humans under influence of Queen Ant

I kept waiting to see Kurt Russell in his Stargate uniform come to the rescue.
