Raffle: N64 universal RGB mod
« on: December 29, 2015, 06:49:43 AM »
Hi all, been lurking the PC-E side of things for a while. Want to give back.

I have a universal RGB mod for the n64, (This one http://www.otakus-store.net/en/home/317-n64-rgb-for-all-kit-modding.html?search_query=n64+rgb&results=7)

Should work on any N64, comes with board and cable (had my N64 upgraded to HDMI).

Free to winner in Can/US. $5 shipping anywhere else.

Winner randomly chosen, enter by listing for your top 3 game recommendations, that aren't mainstream on the PC-E/NES/SNES/Gamecube or Sega Genesis. (only 3 total, not 3 per system  =P~)

Cheers

Edit: Will chose winner on Friday.

Cool raffle!  Thank you for putting it on.

Here are some good "underground" titles:

NES - Magic of Sheherazade (Pretty decent Zelda - like action RPG)

Genesis - Dynamite Duke (rail shooter that was an early title on the system.  Some of it reminds me of Wild Guns, just not as good)

Gamecube - Geist (sort of survival horror type game but you are a spirit and you make your way through the game by possessing people, animals and objects.  It's pretty fun and a Cube exclusive.)

I have been wanting one of these rgb kits for awhile now, thanks for offering to the community!

My list:
Kabuki Quantum Fighter (NES) - excellent platformer that can still be had for cheap!
Ranger X (Genesis) - fun little run n gun, doesn't get near the credit it deserves!
Blast Corps (N64) - not sure if this consider main stream or not? Pretty neat blow em up puzzle game, for a RARE title I felt like it went under the radar

I am going to cheat and add CrimeWave for the Sega Saturn on this list as well. Its an isometric racing/chase game where you try and blow up the criminals and their vehicles. I really wish they would remake this for Xbox Live or PSN!

On a side note: how do you like the HDMI mod? I am contemplating doing that to one of my other N64 systems so I can play it on my living room tv (would make it easier for 4 player games with friends)

Thanks for the suggestions,

As far as the HDMI mod.. it's good. Is it $160 better than RGB through an XRGB... eh... I do like that you get proper scanlines at 1080p, and that you can de-blur some games.. but my n64 is probably the least played retro system I have, since I think the early 3D ages very badly. In hindsight, I probably should have stuck with RGB. If you play n64 all the time, then go for it.

Sirhc!  Great mind think alike.  I thought about mentioning Kubuki.  The gameplay in that one reminds me a lot of Batman on the NES.  I also thought about Ranger X but the price and awareness of that game have been going up recently.  I also really like Blast Corps.  It was one of the first games I ever played on N64 and is still fun and novel idea for a game.

I've been toying with the idea of an RGB mod for N64 for a bit so I'll throw my hat in the ring.  Thanks for the raffle, Mikey!

I always liked Sword Master on the NES.  It has some cool scrolling layers and large sprites seldom seen on the platform.

On the SNES, Smartball is a fun platformer with some cute enemies designed by Sugimori of Pokemon fame and can still be found for under $10 on ebay.

Shockman on the Turbo Grafx/Schubibinman 2 on PC Engine plays similar to Megaman games only it has a 2 player simultaneous mode.

Cool raffle OP! Good thing not many people here like the N64 ;)

PC Engine: Aoi Blink, it's Mario World mixed with Wonder Boy. A high quality Westone classic

Snes: Ninja Warriors Again. A remake/sequel to the original, but a far better game.

PS2/Gamecube: Bonk's Adventure has a remake. Did you know that? It's actually pretty good too

sure I'll hop in on this one, so here are my recommendations-
PC-E/NES/SNES/Gamecube or Sega Genesis
Genesis - Dinosaurs for Hire. think contra with 90s comic book humor and dinosaurs. also, it's not as hard as hard corps, so i think it's more fun.

Gamecube - Wario World.  No one ever talks about this game, probably because it's kinda easy.  but it's a solid 2.5/3d platformer starring the fat man himself.  plus, piledrivers everywhere.

PCE - Ai Cho Aniki.  i mean,

if that doesn't make you want to play it, you have no soul.
I once watched _joshuaTurbo's kid play it with obvious confusion.
