Turbografx cd Test
« on: July 24, 2015, 03:25:49 PM »
Is there anyway to test out a TG-CD without the system card ? It turns on and cleaned up and reapplyed grease to the rail so its not jammed. I just want to know if i can test it and see if it spins before buying the system card :). Any help would be great.

It should play standard audio CD's, see if it plays smoothly, doesn't make noises, doesn't skip tracks. Listen to the sound of the drive itself, as well as audio out (headphone jack/RCA OUT).

This doesn't guarantee CD-ROM drive is operating, but at least it may bolster your faith to get a system card proper.

Put an audio CD in the drive and press the play button on the drive itself.

Ok ya ive tryed that but it still doesnt spin so thats why i wasnt sure, ive tested the caps and everything on the board looks good and like i said i cleaned and regreased the rail. Is it possible that it wont spin if the laser itself isnt working ? And if so where can i get a replacement if anyone knows ?

System Cards can be put on a everdrive as long as it's those without ram and only cd-rom instructions.

before putting the cd drive back together make sure the gears move freely.

If the spindle doesn't turn freely, either the motor has seized or there's something obstructing the spindle. Remove the spindle and check for anything.

At this point im really confused i bought a new laser, even tryed to replace the motor. The gears are spinning fine so im really not sure. The ribbon cables are also put back in right. Will bad capacitors cause it not to spin ? I cant find any faulty caps but i may try to replace them as well if its a possibility.

Laser seems to be moving back to the center and it will start to spin right at start up but will just stop.
