Double Dragon 2 on the arcade was the pinnacle of fighting games 1998.....

So many classic beat-em-ups came out in 1998. Great year.

There were beat em ups in 1998, but they were happening in Kosovo and Congo. Although I guess the former is more of a run n gun and the latter a hack n slash.

I meant 1988, not 1998

apart from dragon ninja vs bad dudes, the dd cousin Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-kun and Vigilante, scrolling beat em up were still in their early cycle of growth, probably year 1989 or 1990 was their mature years with final fight, golden axe  and konami teenage mutant ninja turtles as the golden years of scrolling beat em up before the one on one beat em up craze started in 1991
