Update on my newish PCE/TG16 collection
« on: September 28, 2015, 12:13:50 PM »
Hey gang, thanks for all the great replies and support from my earlier post announcing my entry into the world of PCE.  I've always loved that era of gaming, it's my "golden age", and I've been missing out on a HUGE part of it all these years.

So, I got my region-free PCE CoreGrafx II, thinking it's an easy way to get into this realm.  But now I'm wondering . . . should I have simply bitten the bullet and gotten a Duo?  I was reluctant to invest in that kind of start-up cost, but there are SO MANY CD games I want to try.

I've read all the guides and watched all the videos on which versions to buy, which games are best, etc etc . . . but what I really want is input from this community.  How should I proceed? Simply splurge on a $250 Duo R?  Get an American Duo and re-cap it?  Be patient, and enjoy my PCE for a while?

Thanks!

Since you already have a core grafx II you could get a super CDROM2.  That would essentially be the same thing as a duo

Yes, it is.  Have you seen the prices, though?  And it would need the system card, too . . . I could get a Duo R with a small stack of games for less.

Unless you know something I don't, that's why I came here!

The SCD has System Card 3 built in.

Now, I don't know what the current price of a SCD is, but there are lots of great HuCARDs to enjoy.

There sure are, Esteban.  Building a little collection of HuCards and waiting until I find a good deal on a Duo (or SCD, should I stumble on one) is certainly a good option too!

I just was looking for input from some folks here, who are a lot more experienced with the PCE.

Thanks!

There's lots of good hueys to enjoy while you wait for a deal on a Duo (any version).  Maybe snag yourself an everdrive in the interim, then you can sample lots of games and translated roms.

I've been feeling an itchy trigger finger to get a Duo . . . but I think you guys are right, I can enjoy a bunch of HuCards for now, and wait until I find the right deal on a Duo.

I'd looked into Everdrive for Genesis, (I've been collecting Sega stuff for years), but for me, the cost just isn't worth it.  I'd be better served putting that money toward a nice Duo.  But yeah, they really are cool for someone who really wants to experience everything.

Who knows?  Maybe the right Duo deal will appear tomorrow.  Maybe not for several months.  I will be patient, though . .  . CD games will still be there when I get around to it!

There are definitely a lot of great hu cards to try out.  Such as Ninja Spirit, don doko don, atlantean(from our very own arkhan), zipang, blue blink, and one of my favorites from Taito jigoku meguri/bonze adventure.  :)
