Anyway, got a few minutes here -
Dark Fact, yes the game totally has major cheese going on - mainly due to the soundtrack and enemy character design.
I actually dig the game (but have only been to about level 4 before stopping), but grew up on double dragon, so I would def. say that I prefer the NES version over this. It is quite good though. The soundtrack is kind of like streets of rage but not as good. The first level has this track with these clown screams? that irritate me a bit. The second level is even worse, with this 1.. 2... 1, 2 3 4 diddy that drives me crazy. There's a lot to it, and I should probably do a real review, but I'll just hit upon some of my initial observations. The controls are a little weird - for example the super knee and spin kick are kind of difficult to pull off, I should probably read the manual for that though. If you are holding an enemy by the head you can get hurt, which kind of sucks because I used to enjoy taking a pause there to talk some smack and figure out if I wanted to kick the enemy in the face, elbow them to the ground or toss em. The characters are all completely different (where's Abobo?), and probably not as memorable. The first boss was giant, which I thought was cool, but the music didn't change to "boss music" so I was like... oh.... the boss? There also didn't seem to be as many characters, and everyone comes out in 2's mostly, which I didn't like. The sound effects are way off at times, like the ladder climbing (c,mon??) and all of the punch sounds are the same. I really look foward to hearing the super upper cut or power knee sound when I blast someone. So, bummer there. I think I need to finish the game in order to really say any more. But it was cool (not as cool for the 70 I paid).
... more to come in an official review.
