Duo-R with RX internals?
« on: February 13, 2016, 12:07:51 AM »
So I cracked open a Duo-R last night to fix it.

When I got the shell open I immediately noticed this Duo-R has a Duo-RX motherboard. I then checked for the gear and yup, it has the Duo-RX gear as well.

Did any of the Duo-RX boards end up in Duo-R shells from the factory or is this most likely that someone swapped shells possibly for aesthetic purposes?

Obviously the boards look exactly the same but there are less caps and no fuse on a RX motherboard compared to a Duo-R. Some of the caps are of different values as well. The trim pots for the CD-Rom are larger and have plastic on them and stand up from the motherboard. The Duo-R has the regular small metal trim pots.

Let me know what you all think...

I've seen plenty of duo-r systems that have the larger white top potentiometers in them as you mentioned. I'd like to think this was done from the factory. Would be kind of odd if there was a whole mess of systems out there with changed out motherboards.

I was only mentioning it because every Duo-RX has less caps than every Duo-R I have ever seen so far.

Duo-RX board has two caps right behind the HuCard port and is missing all the caps between the Supercap and the A/V output and I have never seen an RX with a fuse but all the other consoles do.

To me it's like they over ran the Duo-RX design and fit some into the regular Duo-R possibly toward the end of production?

I just found it odd when I opened it up was all. Duo-R's out there floating around exactly like RX's except the label on the shell.
