Powering TG-16 through expansion port?
« on: October 24, 2015, 05:15:26 PM »
Hey guys I have a bare TG-16 in shoddy shape, so I'm trying to use it for a project.  The power adaptor is 10.5V, but can it be powered from the +5V pin and ground from the expansion port directly?  If so that would be MUCH easier for me.

Isn't that how it gets powered if you use the CD dock?

What are you planing to do?  Make an arcade system out of it?

Yeah, that's the plan. :)

Using an online calculator, I can use a 1 watt 1.2ohm resistor on the 12v rail to get the 10.5v it would get from the power connector, but that's a very stupid way to do it if the system will run off of 5V, the 5V rail on JAMMA cabs have better amperage available and this would be less wasteful.

yes you can use the 5V pin, but note it will bypass the switch
