Leave them on.  I had a monitor die between uses.  I turned it on after I turned it off, and it just died mid-game.

I think the constant off/onning made it pop.

but really, theyare all going to break, so , screw ittttttt

Yeah, I guess leaving it on for these half-hour pauses is probably better for them. Of course, yeah, don't leave it with a still picture, activate the tuner to run random video or a black screen as you mentioned by switching to an input mode with nothing connected I guess, assuming it's not a model that'll permanently display "NO SIGNAL" in that scenario or then shut off after 10 minutes or so of a no-signal state, etc.
