The Enemy of the State
« on: July 27, 2016, 12:35:43 PM »
So a local movie prop house got this in and me being "Max Collectard" I just had to grab it. This is the NEC Turbo Express replica prop used in the movie The Enemy of the State. This unit would have been used in most of the action scenes. I believe someone in Europe owns the actual working unit that actually turned on in the movie. This unit came with a bunch of Zavitz's(Jason Lee) PCMCIA cards as well. Thought you might all get a kick out of this. Enjoy! Sorry for the crappy quality of the pics. Ill take some better ones later.

how odd! I thought the enemy of the state one fidn't say turbo express or have those definitive markings on it?

(and esteban, it wouldn't turn on, it's just a replica)

Any movie with a Will Smith budget is going to have multiple copies of props, some of which may have never even seen the screen. You can't go shooting a movie for $150,000 a day and then send everyone home early because you broke the only fake TG-16 you had so two units seems like a low number. I would assume 4-6.

Regardless, even though this movie stunk this is very cool. Even if you paid a grand for it at least it's actual TG-16 history.

Pretty neato, thanks for sharing.  Does it have all or most of the appropriate parts inside or was it gutted?

(Again, it's a prop, so it almost certainly has nothing inside and the buttons don't move, etc - but I guess we should hear confirmation on that!)

I'm more interested in why it apparently has a screen protector.

Q: Is it modded to play Japanese and/or European HuCARDs?

That is cool. Growing up with a friend that had a turbo express I picked up on this prop the first moment I saw it on screen.

my first thought is maybe it helped reduce reflections off of it? *shrugs*

Very cool item.  Looks like that PCMCIA card was jammed in the slot.  Does the unit have any weight to it or does it feel hollowed out?

Also, I really like the shelving you have for the games in the background.  Are they Ikea?  Got another pic of them?
