I'll say this it's metric tons better than Ark of Napishtim (least the PS2 version I played).

I found Ys 6 on PS2 to be tons of fun, so I take your statement about Ys 5 with a dubious squint.

Yeah, I absolutely loved Ys 6 on PS2 as well.  I didn't care too much for the 3d models, prefer the original & PSP in that regard.  But that game is great.  Not Oath in Felghana or Origin great, but still great.  Even still, I'm sure I'll enjoy Ys 5 to some degree or another.  I wonder if the music was more rock, less classical, if that would've helped peoples opinions of it?

Did you guys play it when it first came out or more recently/both?  I admit I didn't play through it when it was new.  My experience and feelings come from playing through at the end of last year.  Personally I found myself REALLY frustrated with the platforming, and other game mechanics.  I don't know the game just did not mesh/click with me.

It was Ys, so I bought it on day one. :D  I'm sure I pre-ordered it from Electronics Boutique or whatever.  I do have the PC version as well(& the PSP) but I don't think I picked that up till later for really cheap on ebay.
