Technically impressive pc-fx games?
« on: October 10, 2006, 06:44:30 PM »
I've mostly been playing a small selection lately so I'm wondering if there are any hidden wonders out there.

A lot of people thought Nirgends was some sort of sleep-inducing talk-forever kinda game but it turned out to be a 3D action flight sim kinda thing. While not technically impressive really, it seems like a weird 3D hack like old amiga demos, it's still the only bit of 3D i know of on the system.

Zenki overall impresses me the most, tons of layers and sprites and fmv and effects mixed together.

Anything else?

Honestly I think Battle Heat is really impressive just because how crisp the FMV is and how instantly screens will load. I've only played six PC-FX games so I can't really give too much of an opinion, but I think Last Imperial Prince looked rather nice too.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Tengai Makyou Kakutoden's got the best fmv I've seen for PC-FX.

Zerogaier/Super God Trooper has the best graphics of the few games I've really seen.

only know zeroigar as a technical reference, but there's allmost nothing which the pce also couldn't handle (exept of some transparency effects als sligtly better palette). what's happen to the ironman

Zenki looks like a PC Engine game that got moved to PC-FX. But not in a bad way.

Yeah I noticed how Zenki looked like it might be portable to the PCE, with the exception of the nicer FMV, transparencies, and some other weird effects that were used. Doesn't mean it looks bad though, in fact it looks fantastic.

The pallete even looks PC Engine'ish. Except the portraits actually use some weird colors, like grey for Zenki's hair when it should be black.

The warping effect in the sky in the playground scene could actually look nicer if it used one of Chris Covell's effect demos.
