I like the Monty related games, but he is kind of a dumb character.

I too prefer Bonk to Mario.  I even liked Super Bonk more than SMW.

My favorite Mario back then wasn't even a Mario game (DDP).   Go figure.

I don't mind animal mascots, I just think the ones with 'tude are facepalm-worthy, like they really thought that thing was "Cool" and "Hip", give me a break...
I like the ones that are either cute like Ristar (technically not an animal, which kinda helps in my book) or at least don't act all "2 Kewl 4 Skewl" like the opossum from Rocket Knight Adventures (he got a bit worse in Sparkster though, but not as bad on the SNES version) and Crash at least has a cartoony goofiness to him, I don't mind goofy mascots either, if they're legitimately funny I'm all the more welcoming to them! Bonk would fit into this goofy category...

Mario doesn't fit into any of these, he's more of a "Silent Protagonist" kinda like most of Nintendo's protagonists, and pretty much remains that way, the only semblance of personality we get from Mario is that he's kinda happy-go-lucky with the "Yahoo"s and "Woohoo"s and all, and that's more than enough to me, you don't need your protagonist to have a personality, you just need them to control well, and that Mario does better than anyone else in gaming, if the character is fun to play as, you the player will fill in the blanks... (Unless you have no imagination)
Honestly, I prefer the more blank-slate protagonists, but that's another conversation entirely...

I am probably the only person here who thinks that Tinhead deserved a chance to be a famous mascot.

People watch me play Mario 2 and go "jesus christ are you on cocaine"
What a compliment

lol, in the ice-part (I'm talking about SMB 2 USA), I just run the whole time while sliding and ducking under stuff.   Most of the time, I get to the end without stopping.

That's how you're supposed to play those levels, I use the Princess to slide and float without stopping.

I don't think Bonk is a good game. Many of you love this game, so I hope to find out why!

Bonk's Adventure has been one of my favorite games since the console came out in the States, so my view is probably biased and nostalgia weighs pretty heavy for me. Having said that, my view echos many of the same sentiments already voiced here.
I love that there's a simple story.
I love the quirky, colorful, bizarre characters.
I love that it's an upside-down take on the traditional platformer, where Bonk juggles enemies in the air rather than jumps on them (though he can do that too, as long as it's head-first).
I love that the turbo switches are perfect for this game, both of them!
I love all of the hidden areas. I've been playing this game almost since day 1 and I still found a new area last year.
I love the soundtrack.

I played through the game again last night while streaming on Twitch and uncovered many (though not all) of the secret areas. I also didn't juggle nearly as much as I could have, though I still finished the game with 17 extra lives.

This game is definitely one of my favorites and whenever I have some time to kill and just want to sit down and play something I love, this is a top contender.

It took me months or years of practice to beat the game and I remember the first time I completed it; it took me 4.5 hours. Now I usually beat it in about 1 hour. It's so much fun.

My biggest complaint about Bonk's Revenge is that it's WAY too easy to get the warps and end up skipping interesting levels.
