PC Engine Duo controller issue
« on: November 22, 2017, 09:37:15 PM »
Hello People,

back with another request for advice on an issue im having with a DUO.

seems the controller mappings are out, and the D pad does not work at all.  Have tried several controller and all have the same issue.  have also replaced the controller port and the issue continues.  also the other buttons do other actions.  system recently had its capacitors changed

can upload pictures if helps in anyway.

thanks to everyone :)

Usually this is caused by bad traces in the controller port area. Have you checked the traces for the ports pins using a multi-meter?

Thanks for the reply

Seems the buttons that do work do different actions. Run button seems to be up and action button 1.  The mappings are all out. D pad does not work at all

Weird, I've only come across that when a controllers wiring was done wrong(cable replaced) but You've tested other controllers so I am at a loss.

yeah and controller port also changed.

so mod work done so far

capacitors replaced

silly me did not confirm controller port before mod work.  however will start with traces then capacitors.  or if any others have suggestions.

thanks

righteo

so disassembled the duo and looked at what was done.  confirmed all capacitors are correct with polarity right.

turned the motherboard over, and noticed something really obvious pin 31 and 30 on c6280 were shorted instead of 29 and 30.  so have removed the short and connected 29 and 30 and all is working now.

lesson for me, double check tripple check before turning anything on.  fortunately no harm was caused to the system.

hopefully no one else makes this mistake, however if they do and are scratching their heads then take note of my mistake.

cheers
