I use old audio cassette cabinets for storing famicom and genesis games. Works much better for the latter, since stupid nintendo did not put spine labels, but it's still a great, cheap way to store them.

This is exactly how I store my loose FC, Genny and Master System games.   I really like the look of it when you pull open the drawer and get a sweet surprise of awesome carts!

I have about 2/3 of my US Turbobs in similar drawers for CDs.  Nobody sells 'em any more, so i can't get enough to store them all, let alone enough for PCE too.

To be on the safe side, I'd not stack too many of the same color together.
