tg/td/pce Question
« on: January 21, 2003, 05:52:00 AM »
I would like to buy a system that will allow me to play all the Ys games(1,2 and 3 in American version) and the japanese release of YS 4.  I would also want to play both releases(Japanese and American) of Hu Cards and CD's if possible too.  What is my best option for a system?

Will the American Turbo Duo play all the games above?

Will a Japanese PC Engine play them all too including American release games(HU and CD's)?

Thanks Im confused.

Turbo Grafx 16 won't play Japanese (PC engine) HuCards, it can ONLY play US (Turbo Grafx 16) HuCards. This is vice versa with PC Engine; PC Engine won't play US (Turbo Grafx 16) HuCards, it can ONLY play Japanese (PC Engine) HuCards.

For CDs on CD systems, it's different. On a Turbo Duo or Turbo CD, you can play both US and Japanese CD games on it, same with PC Engine Duo or PC Engine CD. So for Ys games, it won't matter. It's your choice if you want a US system or Japanese system, they will both play your Ys games. But like I said before, each system can't play the other country's HuCards.

However, if you get a US Duo or Turbo CD, you can't use Arcade Card because that is Japanese only and will only work on a Japanese system. So, you can either play HuCards in English, or play HuCards in Japanese but able to use other devices such as the Arcade Card, Arcade Card Pro, or Ten no Koe card. You can buy both, but it will cost you some money $$$.

BTW, you can buy/build converters that will allow you to play PC Engine HuCards on your US system, but the problem with them are they can cost a bit of money, and they have lots of jitter freezing problems.

Awesome post!   Cleared it up for me totally as everything seemed a bit confusing.  I am just getting back into the TG thing.  I had one back in 1990 and sold it long ago.  Thanks a lot.  Now to find myself a nice Turbo Duo!

You're welcome  . www.tzd.com has brand new Turbo Duos for $200 , along with some other brand new US NEC systems.

I know they are hard to acquire and in addition are brand new but $200 seems steep.  Has anyone tried Retrogames?  They sell for $158 shipped a used Duo with all components.

I seen that deal at Retrogames, looks nice. But when I get a Duo, I kind of want it new. You could always try Ebay if you don't mind used, you can find a deal every now and then there.
