Denden no Den
« on: March 10, 2007, 07:57:49 PM »
I just acquired this extremely rare CD-based game. I guess it was only released as a promotion with a certain Japanese game magazine or something in the mid-90's.

It's basically the battle mode from Bomberman '94 with characters from Tengai Makyou instead of Bomberman.

Does anyone know anything about this game? By default, when you boot up and press RUN you go into an exact replica of the battle mode setup screens from Bomberman '94. However, when you get to the part where you select your battlefield, there is only one you can choose and the rest are marked off by question marks. This leads me to believe they can be unlocked somehow but I can't figure it out.

Anyone?

I have it too, and I'm pretty sure its as simple as it seems. By that I mean that I don't think you can unlock anything at all. Its kind of like Christmans NiGHTS or something.

Well, I was told it was a rare promotional release. Not sure why it's so common in that case.... Either way, I didn't pay much for it, maybe $10 or something.

Well it's not as common as Tengai 2 or anything, and it was a promo. I never figured out where from though.

That's kinda a bummer that there aren't more unlockable battlefields. I thought for sure that's what the question marks meant (usually does). Why even bring you to a "field selection" screen, then, if there's only one choice?

I guess maybe Hudson had a lazy programmer working that day who couldn't be bothered to remove that section of the Bomerman '94 engine they obviously used. But even then, it seems like it would actually be more work to put those giant question marks in there than to just skip a subroutine call.

yes it is a promo (you can see that on the jewel-case where the 非売品-mark is written on) but it doesn't seems to be rare as well as pricy at all, as you could find out by yourself by buying it for cheap 10 bucks only. i'm not aware of the exactly production quantity, but i think it is somewhere in upper 50'000 region for sure.

I was a bit desapointed when I got this CD at first as I thought it featured different characters form the Tengai series.
