On KYUKYOKU TIGER, I'm pretty sure, that game is not Tiger Heli, but infact, the sequal to Tiger Heli, aka Twin Cobra in the US.  I've gone back n forth, making sure, playing the various versions & doing research, & everything points to it being the sequal to Tiger Heli.  I have the NES version of Tiger Heli, & it's a totally different game, it's similar, & made by the same people, but, the music is different, the weapons are different, etc.  Here's a wiki on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyukyoku_Tiger

Very interesting. I always thought it was the same Tiger Heli I played in the arcades. It's been a while so I guess not :) So I guess the Saturn version is the third one in the series? BTW: How is the NES version of Tiger Heli? Is it worth tracking down? Thanks for the info!

"kyuukyoku tiger = tiger heli" is an old story which was created by almost every game-mag around the world back in time, due to wrong translation or what ever.

fact is, tiger heli = tiger heli, kyuukyoku tiger = utlimate tiger, which is the official sequel of tiger heli by taito.

So one of my house mates that I live with in Japan comes home and sees me playing my pcengine. He then tells me that he still has some games lying around at his parents house and he will just give them to me!
So he arrives home at night and pulls out the following games:

Vigilante, Power Drift, Batman, F1 Dream, F1 Triple Battle, Son Son 2, Bomber Man 94, Out Live, Double Dungeons, Kato Chan & Ken Chan , Gaia No Monsho, P-47 , Formation Armed F

Oh and an extra control pad also :)

Vigilante: Is a fun little beat em up. I have this one for my U.S Turbo. So nothing different here. This was one of those games that I actually finished in the arcades when I was 10 years old. I still like having a go at it. Love getting the nunchuks!

Power Drift: I always thought this was a cool game. The Pcengine version is structured a little different then the arcade. You can't choose the track you want to race on etc. Overall, it does attempt to replicate the arcade with it's effects, but it's all a bit rough. I really wasn't expecting more then this actually and am quite happy to have it in my collection now.

Batman: This game is great. It has great music to start and while it doesn't really play like any Batman game out there, I find this game quite fun to play. You just go around collecting things avoiding baddies and then it's on to the next level. There are tons of levels in this game too.

F1 Dream and F1 Triple Battle: These are very average racers. F1 Dream is a top view racer that I could not really get into. F1 Triple Battle is your traditional F1 racer. I found the controls kind of stiff in this one. I can't see myself going back to either honestly.

Son Son 2 : Kick ass game. Action Platform that's very similar to Black Tiger. Lot's of thing to collect etc. I like this game a lot. Looks great also.

Bomber Man 94 : Amazing game. Never gets old!

Out Live, Gaia No Monsho, Double Dungeons: My Japanese isn't good enough yet to fully enjoy these :(

P-47: Very average sideways shooter. I tend to like these games no matter what though :) The second level has some neat Parallax scrolling.

Formation Armed F: Tough vertical shooter, but I really enjoy it. Again, not the best on the pcengine. Like I said, I tend to like these game a lot. Looks and sounds decent as well.

Double Dungeons is a very simple dungeon crawler, but it can be a lot of fun with two players.  I think some of that fun will be lost, though, if you can't understand the goofy in-game interjections and stage epilogues.

Totally agreed. Hell I even think it's a little fun on single player, but playing with another person is the best. When you finally meet up with your other character, it's like one of the greatest moments in video game history. It also has some pretty sweet music and plenty of cheesy medieval enemies.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Yeah, Double dungeons was fun for the very little that I understood. I hope to work a little more on my Japanese so I can really get into some of these games more. Especially RPG type games that were not released in North America. However, in my line of work, I don't really need to know that much Japanese. I am trying to study on my own when I get the chance though. I may head over to Akihabara next weekend to grab some of the other games on my wanted list :)

My friend found another game in his house:

New Zealand Story: I like this game. I have it on the Taito collection. So I was interested to see how the pcengine game compared. I must say, it feels like there is something missing for sure. Some of the extra hidden items are missing I believe. Also, the colours don't look right. The pcengine can display a great amount of colours and I feel that it could have done better. It's not a bad game and I will still play it, but I am happy I didn't pay for it because I would have been slightly disappointed. However, I must keep in mind that the game was released in 1990. I would have been quite impressed with this port if I had seen it then :)
