Darius plus question
« on: April 08, 2007, 07:49:15 PM »
While I've got past him on a few occasions, I'm still wondering what is the best method of dispatching King Fossil A and the other end bosses. I've beaten him quite quickly on some occasions, whereas other times I just can't do it despite firing non stop. Do I have to shoot off the fins on his tail first, or should I just fire at Fossil A's face over and over? Is there a particular part of the body that when shot at will blow him up quicker?

I find he goes down quickest if you take out the top fin first and then fire into his open mouth. He is only vulnerable when his mouth is open.

It's worth noting that you do not need to destroy any of his fins at all to take care of him. But it seems to me if his top fin is gone, the amount of shots to his mouth needed is greatly reduced. Destroying the fins also gives you extra bonus points. You can, however, just focus on his mouth when it's open and he'll be out quickly enough. Try to stay right in the middle of the four spread shots he fires at you so you've got a straight shot at his mouth.

EDIT: As for the other end bosses, each has his own special attack that require different strategies. Some are bigger chumps than others. I think the biggest chump, by far, is Electric Fan. Some of the biggest pains to do away with are My Home Daddy and Fatty Glutton. I can't remember if those guys are on the HuCard version or not, though. The HuCard version is missing a couple bosses which actually makes it more in-line with the arcade version. The CD version has a different boss for every single level.

Ta for that - I turned King Fossil A into a real fossil after that advice. I see that section B and C both have the same boss, so yeah, it looks like going up or down at the end each stage doesn't affect what boss you meet at the end of the next one.

Yeah, that's the way it is on the HuCard. I believe each "tier" has it's own boss that is common to all the levels in said tier.

On the CD version you actually get a different boss for each Zone.

If I'm not mistaken Electric Fan is the boss for Zone B and C on the HuCard. Electric Fan is by far the easiest boss in the game. All you have to do is evade his laser beams, which is incredibly easy, since they do not home in on you. The other anchor-like things he spews at you are a joke and flail under the power of your gun.

You should have the triple-shotgun by this point, so a couple passes over his "head" and Electric Fan has been unplugged.

Heh. The whimsical boss names in Darius are often inspirational of humorous (not to mention offensive and juvenile) nick names when I play through. Some are so good to begin with they need no mockery (eg, Fatty Glutton).

Sending King Fossil the way of the dinosaurs has become so routine he's fondly known as the King Pussy in my camp. The sinister music that accompanies his appearance makes his easy dispatch all the more enjoyable.
