FX-BMP Questions

How much memory can the FX-BMP store? I know that the PC-FX has 32KB of backup memory (32767 bytes) but with all my game saves on the FX-BMP (34000+ bytes), I certainly haven't reached the max yet. Is it something obscenely high, maybe even enough to store every PC-FX save file?

Also, what exactly are the batteries used for (since the FX-BMP can keep saves even when there is no battery)? Does the FX-BMP have a backup battery to keep charge when swapping the AAAs, one that'll eventually die over time like the Tennokoe Bank? Or is it a rechargeable battery like in the Duo where the internal battery is powered by the AAAs? Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: Alright, I did some research and found that the FX-BMP's capacity is 128k.

My guess is that the save data is stored on a flash memory (which doesn't need electricity in order to keep data), whereas the battery is used to power some sram chip which contains console settings (time, date, etc).

Unfortunately, the PC-FX contains no system settings, and even if it did, it would probably be stored entirely on the PC-FX's internal memory and not the FX-BMP. The system even gives you a battery warning symbol if it doesn't detect any batteries in the FX-BMP even though saving is still possible. So far, I haven't dared leave it out though.

One other thing that I was wondering about was that if the FX-BMP's internal battery were rechargeable, whether the PC-FX itself, while plugged into an outlet, could charge it up.

Wait you can use the BMP without batteries? When I got my system it came with a BMP plugged into it.  The system memory was full but the BMP was blank, so I think it might need those batteries to keep saves for extended periods of time...

Also nice to see you over hear Ganelon.  I have been messing with Der Langrisser FX and while I like love hearing the characters shout spell names in this version, the spell loading times on the map are rather crappy.  :( Although Growlanser VI is whats really keeping me busy right now.  :mrgreen:

Yeah, always a pleasure to see you, SuperDeadite. I definitely feel that the SS version of LII is better on account of its extra scenarios. And the disparity in volume between the quiet streamed music and the raucous voices/sound effects in FX is really unfortunate. I hope you're enjoying GLVI; IMO, GLV took a turn for the worse in gameplay, which has made me hesitant to try GLVI.

Anyway, I got a pre-owned FX-BMP about 3 weeks ago and never touched it until today. I put some AAA batteries into the thing (of course it didn't come with any) and was surprised to see that all the save files from the previous owner are still there, completely contrary to the general assumption that no batteries = unusable FX-BMP. Now, this thing has been battery-less for at least a month, which is what piqued my curiosity.

Anyway, I have a strong suspicion it's a non-rechargeable battery in the FX-BMP since even brand new modules can save without the battery, whereas rechargeable batteries need to charge before any use. It's still only a fair guess at this point since the console, once connected/powered up, could be charging up a rechargeable battery in the FX-BMP for all I know.

Growlanser V focused more on speed then strategy.  After a while I came to like it.  Its not as strategically deep, but it was fun.  Plus it had a really good cast with a plot that was a lot more interesting then IV.  VI has made some nice improvements to V's system, and being a direct sequal the story is comming along nicely.  :mrgreen:
