Ever spot a PC-Engine in a movie/animation?
« on: June 28, 2007, 01:00:19 PM »
A few days ago, I caught a glimpse of one.

I'll post a screenshot later.

Since others around here have probably seen many more Japanese animation films than I have, how common are PC-Engine systems shown in those shows?

i believe, there is a homepage dedicated to this matter. i remember there was, for example the turbo express used in "Enemy of the State".

No, but I saw a license plate that said PCE in a semi-recent Lost episode. Even made a topic about it. :P

From the very beginning of the Lost episode,  3x10 - 28 Feb 07 - Tricia Tanaka is Dead.

I'm familiar with Enemy of the State. Pcenginefx has a page that features it.

About 2 weeks ago I purchased, "Devil Hunter Yohko".

There was a thread around here that was side-tracked to folks discussing animation. I'm not havey into animation, though I do enjoy it from time to time. One movie I thought of, that I hadn't thought of in a while, was Devil Hunter Yohko. I last saw that VHS tape in the mid 90's sometime. So, I decided to purchase it, and give it another go.

Funny stuff. Anyway, this box also had other parts of the series.  I was only familiar with the first part, so over a period of days I figured I could squeeze one in a day, see what thy're like.

While I was watching the 2nd one, I notice something... Wait, that's a PCE Duo-R... hahaha. I paused the DVD, and took a look to see what I could spot.

Looks like a Lynx, Super Famicon, Mega Drive, PCE Duo-R (along with Hu-Cards)

Here are some screen shots:

Is this The PCE a common appliance in mid 90's Japanese animation?

How is that Mega Drive getting power?

The Mega Drive Devil Hunter Yohko kicks ass.

Yeah, it looks like it has some weird breakout box... that's not how the Japanese Megadrive is IRL, is it?

Yes, it just needs a power cord to go next to the AV out.
